Hi all, how much would you pay for a Star Finch and do they get on well with others. Also what type of nest box do chestnut- breasted munias use?

hello Trudy, around £25 to £30 is about the price you should pay depending on the colours, they are friendly enough birds

Hi Vixen,

Well, as I am in the States, my pricing wouldnt be relevant to yours...but just for grins, stars retail for $75-$100, depending on if the source is an aviary open to the public or a pet store, respectively.

As breeders, we can get wholesale pricing...so my cost is $30-$35. Also, at bird marts, they go for about $40-$60. It's an easy way to double your money, but I am hesitant on brokering birds, so to speak. If I had a storefront or retail space, a fortune could be made, lol.

Stars are considered passive, but should not be housed with other re-headed birds. These other red-headed birds can get quite aggressive towards the stars, as they are known to be shy. If one has a large aviary with lots of hiding spots, the situation may be different. If they are housed with non-redheaded and passive species, they should do oaky, as long as there is enough space.

Sorry, I can't help you with the munias, as they are not widely available here.

Hi Trudy,

As Matthew has said, the Star Finches you have seen priced at £35 each are way too expensive, you should find a pair for no more than £45, it's just a case of looking around.:D

And Nikki has answered your question on whether Stars will mix well, but onto the Chestnut Breasted Mannikins/Munias, they will use standard half fronted Finch nest boxes, domed wicker nest baskets or build their own free standing domed nest in a planted aviary, the Stars will use the above also.;)

Paul.

Hi Paul, just thought i would find out how much they were.My c/b mannikins are looking like they are going to nest. The male has been dancing with his bit of hay in his beak. They have been in the budgie box in an half open box so we will have to wait and see.
