hello all

i went to the RSPB's Blacktoft sands in Goole, East Yorkshire on sunday evening. Well worth a visit if your in the area, we wasn't there for 2 hours, and we saw saw 3 marsh harriers - amazing birds, avocets, shelduck, shovelor, curlew, - the birds most note worthy. we also saw a hawk which we believe the be the hobby but cannot be certain as it was flying in the direction of the sun.

SOunds like you saw some great birds!!!!!

We see hawks from time to time...Mexican Eagles and such. LOTS of buzzards, lol...scrub blue jays, robins and cardinals...but mostly snakes, bugs, and armadillos, LOL!

Thanks for sharing Matthew!

thanks Nikki

today i went to the RSPB's old moor reserve in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

i was only there an hour but still managed to see a few notable birds, such as green shank, red shank, shovelor, lapwing, reed bunting, tree sparrow and most notabily the kingfisher! a lovely bird indeed. its a grand reserve there many wild flowe species as well, i noticed a few clumps of Early purple orchid, this in turn attracts a rich variety of insects, i saw 2 green hairstreak butterflies there, again its well worth a visit on a sunny day.

Matthew...

I dont know which I find more intriguing...the sight of all of these different beautiful things...or your ability to actually identify them!

That is quite impressive and certainly reflects your passion for nature.

update on bird watching, i was doing fencing work at the RSPB's old moor reserve when we were told there was a purple heron on the water, we raced to the other end of the reserve and there he was! amazing

its on the second sighting south yorkshire has had, the last being in 1987
