Hello - just thought I'd say hello.

I've been breeding budgies for a few years now - just as a hobby. I have a small birdroom with an aviary containing a collection of mixed finches also.

I rear chickens too.

There's always something to learn and I'm glad I've found your website.

Hello Diane,

Welcome to the Forum, you wouldn't happen to live in Wimborne would you?
If so I remember you from the Birds Buddy Website and Forum, do you still have your Strawberry Finches?
Also Chris D has just started keeping Chickens and I'm sure you would be the right person to advise him where and when needed.:D

All the best to you, Paul.;)

Hi Paul,

Yes - tis me, from Wimborne. I still have the strawberry finches in my little aviary and they are building nests but no sign of any baby strawberries yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The star finches have built a mighty huge nest made out of bits of straw they've pinched from the quails. No sign of babies from them yet either. I've put out bowls containing everything I can think of, mealworms, dried insect mix, egg food, charcoal, grit, oystershell, plus all the usual finch food and canary food and greens, etc. etc.

If I can help anyone with chickens info - let me know. I have quite a few chicken expert contacts around and about these 'ere parts.

Best wishes.

Diane

Hello Diane,

I'm pleased I guessed correctly,:D I wish you the best of luck in breeding your Strawberry Finches, Star Finches and everything else.;)
It sounds to me that diet wise your birds are well provided for, one suggestion though maybe try some Fruit Fly cultures, soak some of the normal seed you provide your birds and Millet sprays, this might help towards getting results from the Strawberries?
