or you could let them rot, stick them in a spray can and call it joop, oh sorry that one has already been done. i suppose if you catch three you could allus poke their eye's out and sell them at 3 blind mice...

hi roger
you have probably killed all the adults,so if the youngsters if there were any were not weaned then you probably wont see any more but if they were weaned then the youngsters might pay you a visit

hi all,

i spotted 2 young mice in the aviary a day or so ago for the first time in over a year now. better get some traps set.

i've heard that if you keep guinea pigs in your aviary they are supposed to deter mice, does anyone know if there is any truth in this? i suppose it makes sense as lion dung keeps the cats off as it's from a bigger cat, so maybe the same thing with guniea pigs being a larger rodent?

hi chris
what a shame they seem to come from nowhere dont they!as far as the guinea pigs are concerned i didnt have any in my old aviary but i did keep them in the shed next door to it and one day i went in and the mice were all over the place trying to get at the food that they were eating so maybe they will leave your birds alone and the seed but just eat their food.............maybe you could ask c&a mate

Hello all,

I've heard that if Rats are actively using an area then Mice will stay away?
Maybe asking a friend who keeps Rats for their used toilet material and placing this around your aviary could deter Mice from bocoming a nuisance?
Having said that I would assume that on a nice hot sunny day (if we get to see one this Summer?) that the smell would keep guests staying too long if you have a barbecue.

To be honest I've yet to try a preventative measure that works in deterring Mice, but I do know of a few cures that work after they have become a problem, but I wont post them on the public Forum.:D

Hi Kenny,

they do work at first but eventually the mice become accustomed to the noise and just keep coming back as before, so a waste of money really

Chris;)

Hi Ken and Chris,

The other problem with the electronic Mice, Rat, Fox, Cat deterrent devices is that they don't work through obstacles such as aviary partitions, walls, fences, hedges etc. Which means you would have to buy dozens of them to have any effect in your birdroom, aviaries etc.

The other bad news is that the Cat devices aren't any use in keeping white Cats away, because nearly all white cats are deaf, I've seen a demonstration with one of these gadgets using a tabby and a white Cat as Guinea Pigs, the white one didn't even stir when it was activated inches away from it, but the tabby set a new land speed record.
