hello Trudy

if they will sell you 2 hens then all the better, do they have a surplus?

hi Matt in October of last year they had about two hundred weavers in the last shipment so they bought all they had so am hoping that they will sell me some females if not just hope to get one i did speak to them earlier in the year and was told i could buy a female.

hi trudy
probably your hen will be dearer than a cock bird would be,as matt says 2 hens would be ideal but it is unusual for anyone to sell 2 hens unless they have a surplus in comparison to the cock bird

hello Rudy, make sure you do get a female or two and not a cock in eclipse.

Hi Trudy,

If Paradise Pets are prepared to sell you hens only it might be a better idea to buy three or four because as Matthew says there is also the risk of buying immature or out of colour cocks, if they all turn out to be hens then all the better.:D

As attractive as the Pintailed Whydahs are, the cocks are very aggressive in a mixed collection, whether they have mates or not.
If you hope to breed this species they would be best housed in a large aviary with a few pairs of St Helena Waxbills, even then breeding success depends on the Whydahs and the Waxbill host parents being in breeding condition at the same time.
