well so far so good he has colored up real good  with 3 hens to love I might come up trumps this year if not I will extend the flight another 8 foot or so give them and the chestnut starlings more room to have there own territories that way reducing the intimidation and friction that can occur MR B

i wish i good extend my aviaries by that much, good luck Mr B

are the Starlings showing signs of nesting yet?

just a suggestion but if you can add 8ft on why not split the aviary into two then each species will have their own terratory and no chance what so ever of them interfearing or squabbling or nicking each other's livefood

that sounds like a good idea to me,splitting it into two would be more ideal

its difficult to say what the starlings are doing at the moment lots of calling and gesturing the hen don't seem to want any of it the cock will feed her she readily takes food from him t hey have built a lovely nest in a big nest box that's about it really :) thanks for the interest will keep you up todate soon as we know more

Hi Roger,

It sounds to me that you have done enough to stimulate the Whydahs into breeding activity mate and I think that if you add any more cover then you may run the risk of upsetting the progress you have already made.

Leave things as they are and play the waiting game Roger, I just hope you have done enough to give them a kick start into breeding for you.

All the best, Paul.;-)

Hi Roger,

if you have any long grass around the egdes of your lawn, cut this off and push it through the mesh around the aviary, the whydahs should then use it for nesting material which is also gives any bamboo or elephant grasses in your aviary a bit of a break

Chris:wink:

paul and criss methinks you both are right on a couple things as long as there is no imeidate nest building I will put some more conifer and plants in but the far side of the avery tha will provide the smaler with some cover just have to wait and see:-D
