Chris,
You know your stuff too, I don't need a yes man, but I think the way this Forum is picking up Laura is going to need a Canary & Foreign Finch Mod.
What do you think?
Paul. :D

I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner
But Chris has now been officially appointed as Foreign Finch and Canary Advisor. I think advisor sounds better than moderator, what do you think?
And Paul I have set you up as Softbill as well as Foreign Finch Advisor.
If you want any further changes made just let me know

Hi Dave
no further vacancies at the moment, sorry
I am still trying to decide what you actually specialise in.....you seem to be a jack of all trades :!:
Therefore, for the time being we will be relying on you to plug the site and ask loads of sensible questions.
Will that do you for now?

Hi Dave,
Remember this, a Forum would not be a Forum if it wasn't for valued members such as yourself asking (& answering) questions, if we were all Advisors we wouldn't have members.
In the wise words of KarlD, "members make a Forum" he is right mate, so keep up with what you are doing with keeping Laura, Chris & I on our toes with answering your great questions.
Also you will notice I'm not an Advisor on other Forums although I hope to help other members with their problems, you don't need a title to help members as you must know already.
Paul. :D

hi mate,
i don't keep javas, but the reason could be down to the amount of light they are getting, if they are kept in the dark or don't recieve much light they may not be brought into breeding condition as they may still think it's winter?
any other info such as their diet, age etc as this could help other members give you an answer.
chris
alright mate
i feed my birds (javas) on foriegn finch seed they also get egg food, millet sprays, mediera cake(thanks to paul and laura)and i supply them withvitamins in the drinking water
they have cuttle fish bone and grit
light hours are from about 5.30 am to 9.30 pm with slight heating
cheers all

hi,
do you feed the foriegn finch mix as soaked seed, or just dry as it comes?
soaking seed changes the properties of the seed, if they germinate all the better! try adding some niger and/or blue maw to the mix if they'll take it as that's also a good conditioning seed
when paul or laura come online they should be able to help out more as they keep java's where i don't

hey jay,
Ive just raised a clutch of silver javas,
What i feed is a mixture of foreign finch & parrot food as javas seem to enjoy the larger seeds.
They also recieve eggfood.
How long have the pair been together? and how long they been in their breeding cage?etc
As it took me a while before mine started to breed, its just a case of not being impatient this year's breeding is only just at its beginning so dont be in such a hurry. And the birds will reward you when they feel ready with a nice healthy clutch of chicks as mine did :D
Hope this helps
Thanks

Hi Jay
last year was my first attempt at breeding Javas' and luckily I was successful. They were housed in my large aviary with my weavers and various finches. They had foreign finch and small parakeet seed available for them along with egg food and soaked seed.
There was also plenty of green food and mealworms.
I take it your birds are of breeding age?
By the way, they love peas and sweetcorn for a treat. I buy frozen and defrost what is needed.
Good luck

Hello Jay,
The question's I have are, what type of nest box & nesting material are you providing your Birds with?
The problem could be that you are offering the wrong sized nest box & material.
Do you provide them with a Budgie type nest box, & what materials are you offering?
Paul.
alright paul
no mate i am not using the budgie type boxes ive got the finch type and im offering them shreded paper and coconut fibre for nesting materials
cheers mate
jay

hey jay,
I'd definatly give them budgies boxes as mine only use them & dont touch the smaller type - they prefer the seclusion and ability to hide.
The nest material your supplying is fine, so once you change boxes and their in condition they should nest for you.
My problem at present is most of my javas are moulting!! the only ones which arent are 4 cocks & my silvers, which have the 4 chicks.
I'll be trying to breed some normals & fawns once the hen's have finished moulting.
I wish you the best of look
Catch ya later
thanks

Hello Jay,
I think between yourself & Dave you may have answered the problem, if you offer your Javas a Budgie style nest box you may find that your Javas will breed for you.
Breeding fit Javas lay anywhere between five & eight Eggs on average, this number of Javas will not be comfortable in a standard Zebra Finch type nest box so this is where the Budgie nest box comes into play.
Please try the Budgie nest box & let us know if this is the answer to your problem.
Paul.
