Hello All,

I was wondering...do you think I can house my Cordons with a pair of strawbs? Currently, I have the cordons in their own cage. One of my berry pairs is not breeding and in a large flight. Both are considered passive...and as cordons have no red on their heads (I'm hesitant in housing different species of red-headed birds together, as I;ve heard this can cause fighting) they should be okay, no?

If the cordons are going to breed, do you think the berries would interfere? I'm thinking it should be okay to put them together. It will free up a cage (found another pair of berries today  )...and I'd need to house them by themselves. Even if I dont adopt the new berries, keeping species together that both eat live food and are compatible helps me with keeping live-food eaters together in the same cage...less mess, lol.

Thanks in advance!

hello Nikki

well it depends on the size of the the flight really, just remember the old rule, each pair needs about 3 square foot, cordons, can be alright in a mixed collection, but they can be abit aggressive, and even out chicks, i am almost certain they did this last year, Gold-breasted waxbills and Red avadavats bred ok in there with them.
be warned though.

Thanks Matthew,

The flight is 15 square feet if I did my math right.

There's only 1 pair strawbs in it right now. Ugh...I would hate for them to oust berry chicks!

Hmmm....I'll have to think on it. The berry pair is in eclipse, so I;m not sure if by the time breeding rolls around they will have gotten used to each other.

I really need to condense. Right now, none of my cages have more than 1 pair in them...excluding chicks, of course, and I've flights and large breeders everywhere, lol.
