Well...setting up the sewing machine today. Thought of making seed skirts. My birds are in fllights/breeders inside and the seed hulls are endless. I dont like to vacuum in there when there are chicks in the nest, as some of the birds are flighty and the vacuum cleaner is so blasted loud. So, until now, I've only used a sweeper...sort of like a non-motorized broom that sweeps everything into an internal tray. It works okay, but I think if I can keep them from going onto the floor in the first place...well you get the idea.
So...think I'll make some with fabric and elastic so place around the bottom of the cages.
Wish me luck...I have to remember how to thread the sewing machine, lol.

i don't have that problem as my birds are kept in my sheds

from what i understand there already is, some prong-less fork in America has developed nappies for parrots, so birdie knickers are the logical step to go

Laura...
They'd be DDD cups. That way they could just load their eggs in there and not worry about sitting in a nest.
"My...your birds are so ro-BUST"

Hello all,
This has proven to be a very entertaining thread, so I almost feel quilty for posting a serious answer.:-?
Nikki,
A friend of mine came up with an idea of avoiding his Fife Canaries spilling their food onto his Birdroom floor by fixing a piece of clear Perspex onto the back of his D Cup feeders, this idea not only prevented the seed etc from being spilled onto the floor but also allowed him to clearly see if the food containers needed topping up or not.
Another friend of mine, who is sadly not with us any more,:-( took this idea one step further and placed very thin Perspex sheets four inches high across the bottom of the entire cage front, this prevented spillage of food and the floor covering of wood chips.
The material idea is obviously a good one, but the use of Perspex allows you to see clearly if food pots need to be topped up.

Hiya Paul,
We went to the hardware store this weekend to price the plexiglas...not too bad at all.
I planned on doing this with my flights, but it wont work very well with the breeder cages, as there are too many doors. I finished a sample seed skirt, though...but realized that I cant put it on, as all of my breeders have eggs/chicks or are on the same rack as birds that do....so I dont want to disturb them.
great idea to put it on the back of seed pots. I usually change seed daily, but I do use clear ones for most of their foods.
Oh well...back to using the sweeper, lol, until I can get the plexiglass drilled etc.
Great ideas!
