On behalf of FeatherFriends, Ladywolf and myself, I'd like to start a registry thread for the strawberry finch. The purpose of this thread is to have different breeders list their names and areas in a single thread that can be accessed by people all over the world. As there is no national website as of yet (they are under contruction) what better place to list than here at a place where many of us meet...either to post or just in passing.
If you are within someones area and anre interested in contacting them regarding strawberries, the member can be PM'd for further information.
Please dont hesitate to list no matter where you're from...as there are berry lovers all over the world...so if you have berries and are interested in joining this registry for the sake of preservation of the species, please please sign up.

Great idea Nikki,
I only have 1 pair which I hope to breed from and I will keep you all informed if I am successful.

Hi Laura...1 pair or 100 pairs...makes no difference to the registry...This will be a great way for people to connect. And...a great network this is to do so.
How are they doing? Are they in eclipse? And...have you bred from them before?

Thanks Matthew...Actually, it was you all that had discussed it first. I havent talked with ladywolf, so I dont know if she's constructing something else. I have started working on my aviary/rescue website but it will be a while, as time is limited. So...I went ahead and started the thread here.
I havent posted anything in the strawberry yahoo group yet...but if you would like to, be my guest.
The big pitcure I hope to establish is a ways off...but setting up camp here seemed like a good idea.
Lucky ducky bout your 5 pairs. Are they at nest?
I've got 1 pair at nest,...and 1 pair in eclipse.

Hi Nikki
No I haven't bred from mine yet, and he doesn't appear to be in eclipse.
Actually, if I remember rightly Matthews avatar is a picture of my bird and he looks pretty much like that now.

Good luck with them Laura. They are a real joy.
Do you feed them egg food? Do they take live food?
I ask because mine will not touch live food until chicks hatch. But...feeding eggfood and extra protein really boosted them to go to nest.

hello Laura,
seeing as he has been in colour so long, he is probabily an older bird, you'll have to try and get them breeding soon

Sorry Matthew, I think what I said was misleading as he has moulted.

Wow Laurab, your bird colors up beautifully! Mine colored up nicely but not that nice!
My name is Roxie, I'm in the USA, Colorado. I too have one pair of Starwberries, this is my first time to breed them. They have tried two clutches so far this season (April thru July) and no fertile eggs yet. Hasn't got the "kiss" just right. I have moved the birds to a better location and will try setting them in a week or two I think thats enough time? Anyone know? But each time they try they both take turns sitting and sit out 14 days to be exzact. After that if no eggs hatch my female comes out and takes a long well deserved bath. I give my birds the best of what we have here....actually they eat better then me. The Strawberries are awesome birds...if they don't have little ones I'll take them back to my friend who also has Strawberries (also in Colorado) and have them paired up with new mates. Well someone let me know how long I should wait...they are in excellant condition and he has tried 3 times already to "kiss" her...LOL, just love that term!

HIIIII Roxie!
Glad you posted and thanks for sharing!
Sounds like your birds are going to be great parents once they get the "kiss" perfected. I wish I had more to offer...I've only had experience with 2 breeding pairs. There are lots of things that can improve fertility, but in the end, you may indeed need to repair them. I've got a gould pair that is this way as well. Unfortunately, they've bonded and I dont think they'll switch mates.
There's a long list of possibilities...some of the more common (I'm in no way saying that any may apply in your case :)...just general reasons). I'm going to start another thread about breeding problems and observations, based on my own experiences. Hopefully, everyone will add to the thread!
Once again, THANK YOU Roxie!!!! So glad you "registered"!!!

Hi roxie,
No, sorry. I'm still working on it. Its going in piece by piece, so its taking a while. Trying to build it in a timeline fashion, so that it can be used as sort of a reference guide.
Hope you are well!!!

Bless you, Roxie.
I'll get it up as soon as I can. It may not be much, but it certainly tracks what I've learned from watching.
Hope all is well with you!!!
