hi trudy
thats not unusual for javas.i have seen them take tons of stuff in the box and the eggs are laid in the middle on the bare floor,if you are worried you can get some kitchen roll and tear it into strips and put it underneath the eggs but they may move it anyway

Hi Kenny I like your photo you look very cool in those shades:razz:.as for the javas i have put some moss in the aviary so they might use that. The eggs are in the box but have not got any thing under them.just laid on the bottom of the box. Also my diamond doves are both males there are happy at the mo so going to let them carry on as they are.

Hello Trudy,
Although your hen Java has laid these two eggs, it sounds as though the pair aren't completely in breeding condition because they haven't bothered to build a nest, as Ken has mentioned Javas tend to go OTT when it comes to building a nest.
My own have completed a perfectly shaped nest in a Budgie nest box with a chamber at the end for the eggs for the hen to incubate and a depression in the material for the cock to guard the entrance, after that they went on to almost completely fill the box but still incubate the eggs and rear the chicks.:D
I would suggest you remove the eggs and place a good handful of Coconut Fibre, Straw, strips of newspaper or even a mixture of the materials mentioned, then replace the eggs.
Paul.;-)

Hi Paul and Ken three eggs today they are in an open fronted box. There is a budgie nest box in the shed which i bought for them but have ignored it.i will move eggs and put some moss in the bottom. They have put like a ring of hay around the edge of the box but not a lot.

Hi Trudy and Ken,
Trudy,
You may find you get good results as Ken has had in the past without adding more nesting material.;)
Ken,
What do you mean mate, your advice is always right.;)

hi trudy
mine usually take to budgie type boxes but the odd one goes go for something different.but you will find if you carry on putting nest material in they will just fill the box to the top....they always surround the eggs with a halo of nesting material reaching all sides and the roof .i have even seen them take millet sprays in the nest boxes

Hi Ken. They have 4 eggs today put some moss under the eggs today.will look tomorrow. My zebra finches are going to a good home. The white one is pure white so a little difficult to tell what sex it is.The other three were 1 female and 2 males.

Hi Trudy,
Good news, you might be surprised by how many eggs they lay, up to a dozen isn't all that rare for Javas.
But I'm sure you will be happy with half of that number.

hi trudy
as paul says sometimes they lay up to a dozen, the white zebra finch you mentioned can be sexed easier if you have a male nad female alongside each other the males beak is a lot more vivid red and the females is a more orangey red.you do right to let them go though as they tend to rob other nests of the nesting material sometimes with the loss of valuable eggs
