hi all
i was thinking about buying one of those chimenea stoves with a cage round it to heat my bird room next winter.i already have a self opening window venting kit which came of a greenhouse to regulate the temperature and i have an old peice of sheet metal out of an old oven so i could stand it on a paving stone so it dosent get to hot underneath.i know they are expensive to start with but they will cost nothing to run as they work on scrap wood and there is always plenty of that around.what do you lot think!all i have to do is extend the chimney at the top and vent it out of one of the panes of glass in the window

just to remind you that we are in the twenty first centery, it would look nice i admit,

but in my own opion an electrical heater is by far the best. for various reasons, its up to you though i suppose

Hi Ken,

we have one of those in our garden and use it on bonfire night to keep everyone warm. they get extremely hot and kick out a lot of smoke. i don't think it would be a good idea to use one of those to heat your birdroom as it's going to use a lot of the oxygen in there and produces plent of carbon dioxide so you could suffocate the birds, and also it will be a massive fire risk, given how hot these things get you would need to have the walls of the shed made out of concrete to stop them catching fire:shock:

electric fan heater on a thermostat would probably be the best option

Sorry to rain on your parade....

it would look nice, I agree with Chris. Too dangerous. As you know, different wood produces different burn-off...even though it looks like all smoke would go out, all of it doesnt.

Chimineas are great for outdoors, IMO, but really, as Matt says, an electrical heater is best. No fumes to deal with and you have better control over the temperature range.

Chimineas for sale on every corner here...mostly the terra cotta kind. As they are imported from mexico, no telling what is in the clay that is used. Safe for outdoor patios, etc., but I'd be leary.
