After only one week of being in the aviaries all 3 pairs of my Jacarinis' are nest building :D
I also moved my Bourkes from one aviary to another and they are so much happier they have also started nest building :D

Nah no worries mate;),
I think it's simply a case of the hen having a few feathers missing showing the dark underflue of the remaining feathers, when the missing feathers grow back I'm sure she will look fine.:D

Congrats!!!!!!
That is such a great feeling!!!
I am anxiously awaiting to hear about everyones breeding season. Keep those eggs coming!!!
Now, do your birds build free-standing nests?
I ask because I have a strawberry pair in which the male has been working on weaving his own nest. They have 2 different kinds already in there...a wicker and a plastic one. It doesnt look very good, poor guy. I noticed this 2 days ago. The pair started playing with the coco-fiber. Funny, cause the hen just kept watching him and glancing at the wicker nest as if to tell him "Hey, dum-dum...there's one already here!"
I noticed today, he got her message, lol...and started lining the fiber inside one of the nests already in there.
I dont think anything will come of it, but it was pretty funny to see the hen.

sounds great Nikki,
one of my breeding pairs raised chicks in their own built nest in 2004, it was very messy though, the next years their chciks were brought up in baskets and this year after a failed attempt at building a nest (the eggs kept falling through) they are now in a nesting box.
as far as breeding is concerned i have nothing new on the perches yet, i put the budgie box in t'other day, the bengalese are sitting, the red-headed finches have chicks, and 2 pairs of Strawberry finches have nests one, is still laying the other should have chicks, shortly

<clapping hands with glee>
That's terrific!!!!!!
As I said, I dont think anything will happen w/ my berry pair. The other pair, as you know, is in eclipse. I'm just having fun watching them. I put lots of fiber in there, but looks like they are slowly working on the wicker one now.
Hey, I just found out from the place I sold my berries to that they ALL sold the same day I took them in. The kicker is that they sold them for $75 a piece!!!!!!!
The most expensive I'd seen them for, and what I paid for mine, was $44. Heck, I sold them for $35...which I thought was fair as a wholesale price if they are 44 at retail...but NOW...since the availability is nil, and the prices have shot up...I will be retailing them out instead, this next season of course...and AFTER I hold a few back, lol.
Anyways....good luck!!! So glad to hear you've got eggs!!!
My bengies are all sitting, goulds all have either new chicks or sitting.
Waiting for my juvie goulds to color up (9 of them) to offload some and make some more room!
Also, hope to be going to my first bird show in 2 weeks...hoping to find something nice!!

Hi Laura and Nikki,
Laura,
Two eggs isn't bad news for a first round mate,;) I hope you get good results from the first round and even better from the following rounds.
Nikki,
Please don't be tempted to sell your 06 bred Strawberry Finches before you establish how many pairs you can house and breed from next year.
Paul.:D

My Chestnut-Bellied Starlings have now joined in; the hen is filling her nest box with coconut fibre as fast as she can
They have proved to be very fussy eaters turning their beak up at anything that isn't a mealworm....that was until I tried fruit flies at the weekend. Is it just coincidence she has started nest building...I wonder......
