picked up a young 'pair' of spice finches on my travels today, £18
not too bad considering the fact that they are abit scarce these days.

Very nice!.

Keep us posted on how they do.

Seems like lots of birds are scarce these days. Been looking for owl finches and star finches. If I could have one wish it would be for green avadavats. But...alas, lol...THAT's not gonna happen.

I love that you have a mixed aviary.

hello Ken

bengies hybrids? how dare you say that name. i might already have one of them as the cock birds (seen him singing, or trying to) as a tiny white bib, that suggests he go have bengie blood way down the lines, the other one is definately 100% spice.

star finches over here are easily obtainable, and bicheno finches, or 'owls' as you American call them can be seen fairly often.

as for green avadavats, you share my dream there. The only fairly in Britain (that i know of) is about £900, so quite a few pennies, they were bred in small numbers until about 6 years, its amazing how fast they vanish. i can still remember seeing one a few years ago.
the spice finches are going to be housed in a cage to themselves, see how they do. though they are said to prefer aviaries but my pair seem very steady.
if they are pure bred spice birds then i may well pass them on to a breeder of these i bought these birds from a pet shop, as i did not want to see them fall into the wrong hands

Lucky!

They are hard to find unless you have them shipped from an out of state breeder...but postal service wont ship birds except game birds, so it has to be done via airlines...which is very expensive. Stars and bichenos :) are expensive here...about $150 a pair if youre lucky.

Ahhh...youre also lucky. Ive never seen a live green avadavat, only pics. If I knew they were even available here, I'd starts a piggy bank for them, lol....

Gotta love our need to rescue finches from pet shops, lol.
