Red Headed Finch

Hi all
Just a quick update on the Red Headed Finch. The egg laid on the floor , hatched and reared by Bengalese is now a fine hen bird (well chuffed as hens seem to be as rare as rocking horse ....). Photo is my new avatar!
Meanwhile the two adult pairs are both sitting - fingers crossed

Hi Dave
Mixed fortunes on the Red Heads at the moment. One pair keep laying eggs but then not sitting for more than a few days. I intend taking the next clutch away and trying them under some Bengalese.
The good news is that the other pair have a nest full of chicks - about 12 days old now. I don't want to disturb them so dont know how many there are but they certainly make a load of noise when being fed. Fingers crossed they should fledge in the next 10 days os so.
The older chick which the Bengalese raised is doing well and has no red feathers yet so Im still hoping its a hen.
Also have a nest full of Magpie Mannikins at the moment - quite chuffed to have cage bred them!
