Did you know the hen sings as well as the male?

Hello Laura

yes they certainly do, which is another thing that makes them so amazing.

females don't sing as often, and they sing a different tunes to the cocks, but its nice all the same, they might sing more if they are on thier own, though they still sing now and again even if paired up.

I always thought it was the cock bird, but I saw it was the hen last night. She sings just before bedtime.

Hi Matthew,

Have you ever heard of an Asian He/She?

I can't tell all on how I know so much regarding of this phenomenon in the Asian community, but it started one night in a Bournemouth Nightclub.
I approached a gorgeous Oriental Lady and we were getting along like the proverbial House on Fire, to the point that myself and the Lady who went by the name of Well Hung Lo went back to her place, my God Man!!
Hers was far bigger than mine.
It was at least nine inches long and two inches thick!!

Her book on Asian Finches was simply amazing!!:D

Anyway to the point, I have a pair of Strawberry Finches and a single Bird that has shown to be a female for all of this Summer, I have even seen the cock Bird of the pair mate with her on the sly.
But in recent weeks this hen? has started to show colours of a cock Bird, have you ever heard of this in a Finch/Waxbill Species before?

I have known of a proven hen Chinese Painted Quail to show male colours after a ventral prolapse, but the Strawberry Finch hasn't suffered this problem to my knowledge?

   hello Paul i have never had any experience with Asian he/she's fortunitly, my advice to you in the future is stay away from anying that looks even slightly oriental.

anyway what kind of colours are coming on the strawberry? is it red or something like that?

i have never heard of of them change to the appearance of a cock, however these birds are prone to melanism so could start getting bits of colours on them.
did he definately succeed with a intentions? obviously ithe birds is surely a hen, either that or its a woofter???

i have read in one book that Strawberry cocks can take up to 2 years to get the adult plumage, though with mine its always been just a few months.
if that birds is a hen then i've got surplus cock birds for sale.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for the advice on the former.

The Strawberry Finch in question wasn't a young Bird when I bought it, another thing is that it is the tiniest Strawberry I have seen, and the colouring coming through is red.

I know Strawberries have an eclipse plumage, but this Bird has been out of colour for nearly a year.

But if it is a cock Bird, it doesn't explain why the cock of the pair mated with this Bird while his definate hen was incubating.

Paul.
