Ferns

I have read about people putting ferns in their aviary, is it any particular type?

Hello Laura,

I have seen Ferns used in Aviaries, I don't know the names of them (common or Scientific :roll: ), but they were not the Wild Bracken type Ferns you commonly find in our Woodland.
I'm certain Ferns are actualy toxic, but you can get away with using them with non destructive Birds, particularly in large Tropical set ups.
I would like to use Ferns in my Aviaries, purely for decorative purposes, but I'm afraid my Aviaries are too small, the problem is Ferns serve very little practical use ie nesting, perching, cover etc, so I would rather have other Plants in my Aviaries due to the lack of space (plus I heard of an incident which resulted in a newly fledged chick found dead at the bottom of the centre of a Fern). :(
