Hi all,

Although I didn't post this news as it happened, I thought I should share the news of four fledged White Headed Nun chicks from my mixed aviary two days ago.
I'm very pleased to have bred these Birds from a colony of seven quite old adults, despite the fact I didn't put the Birds into their breeding quarters until very late in the year.

All of the young Birds produced of this Species and other Nuns are very important in establishing them in UK Aviculture due to the fact that we may have a very long wait before we see these Birds available in good numbers in the future due to the overly hyped Avian Flu in Asian Countries.

As well as the White Headed, I did have two Black Headed Nuns fledge a few weeks ago, again sorry for not posting earlier.

great news Paul, well done.

i agree that many mannikins need our help if they are to be kept in aviculture, granted they are not the most colourful birds, nor can they sing brilliantly but still they need help and any successfull breeding is an achievement.

Paul, I am so pleased for you and your birds; but I am equally over the moon that Chris has the Weaver bug!

Hi Laura, Chris and Ken,

Laura,

I'm also pleased Chris has been bitten by the Weaver Bug, the Bug seems to have sunk it's teeth far deeper with Chris than it could have done with me, but then again I am double the size of Chris.

Kenny,

The Tri-Coloured Nuns are one Mannikin Species I had high hopes of bringing back to the top of Foreign Bird Breeding in the UK, but the current Avian Flu problem has put the brakes on regarding my plans.

All I can do is hope that over the next couple of years that a handful of breeders can prevent the loss of White Headed, Black Headed, Pallid and various other lesser known Mannikin Species from being lost to UK Aviculture.
Tri-Coloured Nuns may follow the Green Avadavat in being lost to UK Aviculture. But I will do my best in preventing this from happening!!

Chris,

No worries mate, just concentrate on the Weavers and leave the Mannikins to the rest of us.
Weaver Species are far from easy, but then again they are not impossible, I wish you the best of luck with breeding from the Weavers you have.

All the best to you all, Paul.
