I'll start you all off...I love to be out with my camera, I have a fuji 602Zoom digital and click at every opportunity, I entered a competition a few years back and was a runner-up, I am still waiting for the right snap to get my name known!

I used to do a lot of needlepoint but found it got in the way of my 'wine appreciation'!

I also have other pets:- 2 jack russels, 4 giant african land snails and a lap dog(my husband)!

Hi all,

Apart from my main Hobby of Birdkeeping/breeding, I keep various other Animals including,
Jim my Iguana,
various Tropical Fish: Cardinal Tetra's, Rummy nosed Tetra's, False Rummy Nosed Tetra's, Splashing Tetra, Mosquito Fish, Siamese Flying Fox, Harlequin Shark, Dwarf/Chain Loach, Pygmy Corydoras, Dwarf Corydoras, unknown Species Dwarf/Pygmy Corydoras, Ottocinclus, housed in a 4ft Tank,

My Mother also has two young Spur Thighed Tortoises & breeds Chipmunks.
That only leaves Sam, the Family Cat.

Apart from the breeding of Birds, I have enjoyed the Exhibition side as well, with wins at local Shows in Dorset (Broadstone, Poole & Parkstone, Bournemouth & Counties etc) & Surrey/Hampshire (Aldershot, Camberley, Guildford, Alton etc) when I lived in Surrey before I moved here to Dorset, several wins at the Foreign bird Association Open Shows & the National Exhibition of Cage & Aviary Birds. :D

hi all,

apart from my birds i also keep 3 leopard geckos (soon to be 9!), 2 cats (moulder and scully  ), and loads of guppies that just don't know when to stop! the ones in there that i've been breeding for some time now are soming along quiet nicely, i'm breeding less oddballs and gettin more of the ones i want, but now with better coulours and a more defined tail fin

i'll get another picture at some point, but it could take a while considering out of 30 odd pictures last time only 3 were decent where i actually caught the fish, instead of it being over the other half of the tank

recently i've been spending lots of time finishing off my shed with insulation (only the floor to go now :D ), and a shelf system along the back to place several large tanks on! also been building a few bugdie size breeding cages to keep quail in untill i sell em!

as some of you already know, i've been breeding newts and frogs for release into my garden for about 5 years now, i'm glad to say that it has been a great success as i now have a thriving population of wild smooth newts, common frogs, and common toads in the garden/ area now. i doubt i'll be doing this again unless we have some kind of disatser or unless i can find some breeding program to release these and other species into the wild elsewhere.

now i've got past the animals! i also play guitar, mostly rock and metal stuff including deep purple, rainbow, black sabbath (one of my favourites!), metallica (another favourite!), van halen etc etc

songs i can play at the moment (or at least a lot of) are : rainbows cover of "hall of the mountain king, Enter Sandman, holier than thou, most of: master of puppets (1st solo not too bad.. second solo erm... interesting  ) (metallica), since you've been gone, i surrender (also rainbow), paraniod, iron man, black sabbath, symptom of the universe, into the void (black sabbath) runnin with the devil, ain't talkin bout love, and i've very nearly mastered "ERUPTION" (van halen) can also play "run to the hills" iron maiden

could do with gettin a bit more practice in  as i haven't really learnt much new lately, and still need to learn the solos to songs i could play a few years ago

the band i'm in isn't doing great... our drummer has something against me because i can play way better than her boyfriend (out rhythm guitar) and has been trying her best to get rid of me
apart from that i get on great with out bass player Dave, and rhythm man Ben, drummer's a bit out of time anyway so...

i'm going to see how it goes over the next month or so, if it doesn't improve then i'll be off and start my own band with a few other mates, the other bonus would be the music we would be playing wouldn't be stuff like the darkness   (not that we've got that far yet but i can see it coming) also, hopefully i won't have to put up with having to do nearly everything myself such as writing music only to be told it's rubbish (DRUMMER AGAIN!) while our so called rythm man randomly beats his guitar and calls it a song..........

anyway, my guitar is staring at me 8)

cya

Hi Chris,

Great to hear not only are you an Animal & Bird lover, but you play the guitar, are in a band & you have a damn good taste in Music (apart from Iron Maiden  )!!
All you need to do now is have a sex change operation & I'll propose marraige!!

Chris, please check out System Of A Down, top band mate!!!

hi paul!

air guitar... hmmm

yeah, system of a down are pretty good! i've looked at some of their music before now and the riffs are good, but guitar solo's??? i tend only to learn things with a decent solo in em as every other guitar player i know just tend to learn the simple things and claim they are superior  ... that was before i showed them the two handed tapping technique

i think the only system of a down written music i've got is chop suey, and the album i have is toxicity. i'll take another look at it :D

oh yeah, forgot to mention AC/DC on that list before

as for the sex change, i currently have a girlfriend who wouldn't be too pleased if i did

on another note (no pun intended)...
those guppies which i've been breeding, well i took some down to one of the workers at my local aquatics and now they're darn interested in em! and want me to start supplying them :D now all i need to do is get me a 3 foot tank to bred em in and i'm sorted :D

Hi Chris,

So no career for me in a band then?

I'm glad you like SOAD!! T he only album of theirs that I have is Toxicity, for now anyway.

You will have to explain the two handed slapping technique.

I'm glad your local Aquatics are interested in you supplying them, good luck mate.

Hi Chris & Dave,

Dave welcome to the Metal Heads Forum (sorry Laura  ), great taste in Music mate! :D

Chris I've gotcha now  I didn't think it had a technical name I thought it was just some flash git showing off, no offence mate. :D

Paul.

chris
01-23-2005, 05:09 PM
flash git showing off  sounds a bit like me

just got the matallica S&M album, although i hate classical music the way they've put the orchestra together with some of their greatest songs is fantastic and i love the album! master of puppets sounds brilliant, enter sandman and everything else. the fact it's live is even better

i'm going to start asking around this week to see who's interested in forming a band with me as we're back at college this week from study leave (my maths exam was a piece of cake :D ). probably start with covers of other songs, if we're good enough then maybe even doing gigs as a tribute band. in the unlikely event that this works out, i'll be giving out a few free tickets to you lot to any gigs we could be doing in the future

i'm getting carried away now

anyway, better get back to being a flash git :D

Laura,

I think maybe you should do just that!

Also I think you should know, due to Metallica getting on a bit now, that S&M actually stands for Slippers & Moccasins, this is because they are coming up for their Pipe & Slippers years in the Metal World.
Sorry Chris & Dave, that was just a joke.
Metallica ROCK & will do for many years to come!!

Talking of Chris & Dave, have either of you heard anything by Everlast?
Top tunes peeps!!

Hi Chris,

If you are a GREAT flash git, then keep it up mate!! :D

But remember that Thrush by the name of Steve Vai (spelling??)?, don't turn into what he became (it starts with irritating & ends in nt)! :x

Remember the two God's of Guitar, Jimi Hendrix & Jimmy Page? now these are two real Greats to follow, & attempt to better! Good luck

The best of luck mate, but I don't think forming a band on the basis of covers is the way to go, unless you do covers in your own style!!

Originality is the future!!

The same old is just that, it will get you nowhere!

A couple of covers, fine, but write your own material & you might make it?
Come up with a mix of Old School Rock/Metal with a new sound or mix then you are on a winner (but only if it works)!

As you said Classical & Metal for Metallica worked, but Rap & Metal has been done (very well), Dance & Metal has been done, as has Ska & Metal (nice touch I thought), Country & Metal was always doomed! :x

Industrial should have been an everlasting Music form in my opinion, eg Nine Inch Nails, The Ministry, REVCO etc.

This probably only leaves Jazz & metal?

Maybe a revival is needed in one crossover, but if maybe you could create a triple (or more) crossover??
Then I recon you are onto a good thing, remember diverse Musical taste is the winner, I know we are living in an it's already been done generation, but it is down to people like you to come up with a new generation of Music!

How about Jazz, Ska, Rap & Metal all in one?

Later, Paul.

chris

hi all,

i've now left the band i was in as no-one seemed interested in practicing  (just how they think a band is supposed to work without practicing is beyond me :? )

anyway, started up a new band now  mostly doing metallica stuff at the moment but i still need to get hold of a bassist and a drummer with their own drum kit (unlike several i know).

i'll let you know when we come up with a name

nearly forgot! the other guitarist/singer in our band is greatly influenced by SOAD, so when we do start doing our own stuff it may sound interesting. might even do a few SOAD covers?

chris

02-27-2005, 10:45 PM
Oi Chris,

Whats all this about covers?

Shouldn't you be doing original but maybe influenced by certain material?

If I come up with a name for your band do I get a percentage of Royalties & the chance to be your Fat Dancer X Air Guitarist? :D

Please don't turn down my offer straight away it could become your new bands biggest regret.

Paul.

chris
02-28-2005, 06:31 AM

we're just doing covers to start with, so we can learn to play in time etc properly. plus if we're good enough we could get a gig n get some cash out of it which would help with buying new equipment etc for starting our own stuff.

Joining late as usual, sorry :?

There does sem to be a common thread running here. My first ever concert was way back in @ 79 and it was Iron Maiden supported by Praying Mantis. The maidens lead singer was then Paul Dianno whos autograph I got , I was young and silly then. How times change :D

Also been to Ozzy, got his towel, where it is now I dont know but would have been worth a punt on ebay, Judas Priest, Motorhead aaaaaagh! brilliant but got a sore head, Marillion, Robert Plant solo gig ( strange intoxicating smells and afghan coats by the dozen), Krokus (superb swedish crossbills), Robert Cray, BB King and many more almost forgot ACDC the Back in Black tour, absolutely mind blowing and Gillan and more......

Laura, the wife loves Elvis

Chris been playing guitar for a few years now, never mastered the solo got to be guifted, ask Air head tubby lard belly Paul

More into mild mannered Neil Young and James Taylor, well its all chords and I can do them. Never played any Staus Quo, no no no!!!.

Embarrasingly though I also play a bit of .... no I cant tell you, I am squirming at the keyboard.

Catch this thread later

hi everyone,

first song is now pretty much in the bag, including lyrics & guitar solo (still need a darn crummer, but the bassist could be sorted now). i've started messing about with a few new riffs which could possibly lead to another song, if it does it's gonna be a darn site heavier than the last one  .
both of us can now play enter sandman together, and everything to master of puppets except that last solo (could take a while...)

nearly forgot, band name: "last rights of the damned" (don't ask  i looked at a first aid sign and thought "last aid" and then.... )

ACDC Razors Edge tour Angus is THE MAN! and many many more.

BETRAYED

the only other member in our band so far "jason" hasn't shown up for the last few practice sessions and today i've found out why, but not from him :x as of last week he has joined another band which he has been practicing with and turning up on time for (more than that can be said for when he shows up down here) since last week he hasn't shown up for practice, so my guess is that i've been ditched and he wasn't even polite enough to say what he has done

if i find out that he uses any of my riffs & solo's with there band he's going to be getting a vist off a very angry chris

here's something for you to take a look at:

the guitar i currently own:

http://www.bcrich.com/images/hi_res/Platinum_Virgin_Shadow.jpg

and one that i'm looking toward getting:

http://www.bcrich.com/images/hi_res/NJ_Beast_Blue.jpg

that's gonna put me back £500+ the alternative is an ESP-LTD KH 202 (a Kirk Hammet Signature model) however after taking a look into this i've found even though it costs more it's made cheap and isn't good value. if i wanted the replica model i'd be looking at £1800  but even that's over priced due to the signature on the neck

haha, bet i've confused the hell out of ya with the fancy terms

PAUL HEARN
05-12-2005, 09:27 PM
Hi Chris,

Even if it is made cheaply isn't a Guitar worth money for the individual sound it produces?

And is it possible to change a comercially produced Guitar to produce a unique sound?

Paul.

chris
05-13-2005, 06:24 PM
Hi paul,

some woods have better resonance than others, meaning the sound is fuller, different and holds for longer rather than fading. unfortunately these woods tend to be more expensive (mahogany is a good one). the other thing that effects the sound is the string guage and type, whether the bridge is fixed or is a trem, and what pick-ups are used.

it is possible to change the sound of a guitar by altering the amount of times the wire on the pick-ups coil around the pick-up, as it effects the magnetic field it generates (when you hita string, it cuts this magnetic feild, the pick-up detects it and sends the info to the amp and thats roughly how they work)

the best thing to do is to buy a guitar with a good brand name, and good body wood. the pick-ups can be removed and changed/altered, but the body can't (well it can, but then it's not the same guitar:lol: )

unfortunately for me, BC Rich have now ceased making the 2004 range and are maing the 2005 range, meaning the race is on for me to get one of these guitars as the design and materials are a little different!

But as for choosing between a Guitar or a pair of Pekin Robins, come on mate think about it, if you get a true pair of Pekin Robins and you manage to breed them then you can buy a Guitar with the money you get from selling the youngsters.:D

But back to the band subject, I've come up with another name for your band, well I don't know if you have heard of Doctor and the Medics? But how about Veterinary and the Vet Nurses?:?

lol, if i was to write a book on essex, all the information would fit on the end of a pin head, and thats after i repeated the words naff several thousand times!

PAUL HEARN

Bloody Northern Bitches,

It's not Cider by the way, I'm a Namby Pamby Lager Drinking Southerner (as I was once labelled by an old red eyed Bitter drinking waster from Blackpool).

Although I don't think it will make any difference to the low IQ remarks from the inbred Yorkshire members here, I think I should point out that I'm not of Dorset breeding and that although my Parents now share the same surname, (and unlike the Yorkshire members here) this wasn't the case before they were married.

Mines a few pints of Kronebourg which I pick up with the standard five fingers on my right hand complemented with a few Marlboro which fit nicely between my first two fingers due to the fact they are not webbed, and my Combine Harvester is a Cavalier with a CD player which will play any music I wish to listen to, rather than having my Yorkshire bred Brother (who also happens to be my Father and my Auntie) playing the Banjo on the back seat using his six webbed fingers.

Kenny, the mention of a Yorkshireman with a sense of humour, now that is funny!!:D

In spite of my above comments, I'm very pleased to say welcome to Feathered Friends and I love you all.

Paul H.:D

Hi all,

Jimmy I am so pleased you feel that you have found your place mate, a Forum that hopes to give great Bird advice as well showing that we can have a laugh along the way.;)

By the way is the Bird in your avatar a White Billed Bufallo Weaver?

Kenny I'm pleased that my previous post made you laugh, it just goes to show that we Southerners have such a great sense of humour we can even make you miserable Northeners break out into laughter.

Matthew you deny that you are inbred up there and that we down here are guilty of being so, straight after stating that your Mother had to stitch your sides up, down here we have partners that offer such a service from outside of our own immediate Family.
It's known as an outcross.

Also is it true that Merrick is a name of Yorkshire origin, or am I being a bit too trunky for asking?:D

Paul.

Hi Chris
AHH-AHH. Wine I like a little wine some times or even a moan on the odd time.
To the more pressing subjects do you make your own wine if so I think one of the better ones to make is rose petal. It takes a time to collect the petals we use to collect and sort them by colour and put them into the freezer in plastic tubs and when the desired amount had been colected you made the wine.
I am not sure what we liked about the wine may, be the colour ,or even the smell, but after a few glasses neither mattered, but at least when you went home drunk you smelt good.

Hi Matthew

I have 2 pairs of Goldbreasts, 2 pairs of Orange Cheeks, 1 pair Red Eared, 1 pair of Strawberry's, 1 Lavender finch and they are house with a pair of Jacarini's, a pair of Golden Song Sparrows, a pair of Parsons and a pair of Hecks.

Last year I only had 1 pair of Goldbreasts and they were housed with the Weavers, and they bred! I thought it would be less manic if they were housed away from the Weavers :?
