Hi all,
just wondering on what everyone is planning on breeding next year
i will continue breeding parent reared CPQ, but with 2 new cocks and 4 hens, with the addition of a few more grasses and nest sites.
i hope to get the golden bishops/napoleon weavers to breed at some point next year by supplying more livefood than i have upto date, a richer seed mix, and some reeds as from what i have read this is there natural chosen nesting site and material. you can but Papyrus reeds through jungleseeds which originate in Africa along with these weavers so i hope to give that a try.
the greensinger project will enter phase 2 with a pairing of the cock hybrid to a hen fife. i will attempt to produce more hybrids with this year's muling pair and may get more greensingers all going well.
i'm still trying to work out what exactly i'm going to do with the canaries as i have several young bred from this year which i intend to reatain for breeding next year. at current i have the following birds bred this year:
1 yellow fife unknown sex, 2 partially related chocolete &yellow fifes beieved to be one cock and one hen but unsure, 1 red factor cock.
and adult birds: 1 gloster crested cock, 3 yellow fifes, 2 hens and one cock, a pair of red factors.
ontop of this i have 7 young canaries bred this year which i may be selling this weekend along with 7 CPQ, but i may yet retain a few for pairs when i work out exactly what sex each bird is and who to pair up with, bearing in mind 2 canaries mentioned are already taken for the hybrid project.
i think that's it, but assuming bird flu doesn't reach the country this year then i will hunt down a few hen masked weavers and golden weavers (i've decided i'm going to keep the lot, they're too important for me to give up on:grin: )
