Im just asking this question because when i had waxbills i knew of nobody else with them and i had noway of comparing records or whatnot.i have always wondered are breeders in Britian able to let there waxbills out into outside avaries during summer months. It is a big no no in Ireland and i taught i read in an article of a british breeder letting his birds out during the warmer months?

hello Birdbrain
yes you can let waxbills have access to outdoor avairies during the summer months, providing the aviary is well protected, this method has been used for decades, and explains why there fluctuatings levels being bred, as success is often dictated by the weather.
The top breeders, have all their waxbills in indoor flights and large cages, where everything is provided artificially, sucess rates are much higher.

I only kept my waxbills in an indoor flight in a birdroom that wasnt heated but was extra insulated,i found i wasnt having much success with breeding, but to let waxbills out in Irish weather would be madness. If i get any waxbills again its gona have to be in a proper built heated birdroom i think.

hello Birdbrain
there are many factors that stop waxbills from successfully breeding not just poor heat,
but most can be overcome, so hopefully one day you will have success
