How are we all preparing for the winter?

Tomorrow I (well hopefully my husband) am going to clean out my indoor flight that is attached to my large aviary. It has been shut off since last year  It is of brick construction and only has one outside wall, but it is protected because that wall is in the aviary. We are thinking of lining the walls with heavy duty bubble wrap and then covering that with hardboard; hopefully by doing this any heat that is there will not vanish into the bricks.

I am also hoping to catch some birds that I need to sell, as the aviary is getting a little crowded.

hello Laura

i bet you your aviary is crowded an all, all the breeding yours birds have been doin, well done though.

for winter i keep my birds in 2 indoor aviaries, and cages for the chciks and some pairs. i don't release them till the beginning of June.
i usually put them in their winter quarter when the weather turns and we have cold nights, like last night, however i've got a few late breeding pairs on eggs, so i will risk it as these 4 lazy buggers have done nowt this year.

Hi Laura,

i've just this second finished covering my aviary with polythene sheets, this worked well for last year and kept the aviary like a greenhouse on sunny days.

Hi Chris,

my husband has made polythene panels, so if we get a particularly good day, one or two can be removed to allow fresh air to go through ;-)
