Who is going to Shepton, and can anyone tell me what time it starts?
PAUL HEARN

Hi Laura,
I'm sorry that I cannot help you out with the opening time for Shepton, my quess would be for around 10-10.30am?
But my main reason for this post is to come up with ideas on how to recognise fellow members of Feathered Friends visiting the Shepton Mallett/Bath and West Bird Sale on the day?
Options could be,
Display the Vulcan greeting to everyone we meet on the day (with the hope of a similar response), wear the colours of Laura's Weavers (black and red), scream Feathered Friends member every thirty seconds of being in the hall:shock:, or have FF stamped on our foreheads:neutral.
Even better still, have a meeting point at a certain time on the day?:D
I would suggest the catering area at around midday, where you would find a fat bloke tucking into a big fat Beefburger, at least then if you hope to avoid me you will know where I will be:lol:.
What do you think would be a good idea to use in recognising and meeting fellow members of Feathered Friends?
Paul.;)

Hi Laura,
Please don't forget John K will also be visiting Shepton, unfortunately the members here on Feathered Friends are spread quite widely over the UK, and are unable to make the journey to the Bath and West Showground.
There will be one or two FF3 members attending the Show and I hope to inroduce them to you on the day.

It will be good to meet people, but isn't it great having forums where we can talk to people from different parts of the country and world:) I feel like I know everyone already ;-)

Hello Laura and Ken,
I agree the Forum is a great tool for us to chat about our common interest, but it is better still to put a face to a name too.
I know I might regret this suggestion, but how about a section where we can post photos of ourselves so that we don't need to have FF tattooed on our foreheads to recognise each other at the Bird Sales?
Paul.:-)

Hi Laura,
I said I would regret it,:-| but I forgot about the ammunition you have on me, it's not fair.
So back to the original idea, how about a thread where we post OUR OWN PHOTOS OF OURSELVES? Did you get that bit Laura? We post our own photos of ourselves!!

hello Laura, Roger, Paul and anyone else who went to shepton mallet, how was it then? did anyone buy any birds?

Hi Matthew
luckily I had very few pennies to spend, but if I had had the reddies I would have bought a pair of Hornbills, a pair of Touracos and a pair of Pixie Birds.
I did purchase a copy of Bird Keeping World and whilst I have not yet had the chance to read it all, it is certainly full of promise
I think Paul had a chance to talk to the guy that has made it all possible, hopefully he will let us all know what he had to say.....this could be a Feathered-Friends exclusive! LOL

Yes it was me,
Sorry tried to put message in the lounge but very tired as just got back home and I think I did not manage to post properly.
Thanks for the welcome waxbill man, will get more involved later in the week and learn how to use the site properly. For those of you at Shepton Mallett there will be a report in issue of Bird Keeping World - Sorry to scare anyone but those pics that were being taken of the show were for me not the anti's.
Will be in contact later in the week - popped in to sales night at Sutton this Evening, amazing how many faces had been at the Festival earlier in the day.
Laura, great site :) will contact you in the week, sorry I missed you, my wife Sharon liked your jacket though - was this the way you ended being recognised at the show?
Regards
Steve Foster

Whilst at Shepton Roger bought a brilliant book! It is called African Birds in field and aviary and it is produced by the Avicultural Research Unit in Africa.
It has info on a variety of birds and also covers feeding, housing, nest boxes, plants, nectar mixes, grit cake recipe plus other recipes, hand rearing formulas, ailments and diseases.....the list goes on!
And at a cost of £15.95 it is a real bargain!

Hi Laura,
The book sounds great mate! Can I borrow it one day after you have read through it of course?
But I've only just realised what you meant by the Pixie Birds you saw at Shepton, they were Tinker Birds:lol:.
For those of you who don't know what Tinker Birds are, they are a small Species of Barbet, for those of you who don't know what Barbet's are please use a search engine on the Internet.:D

Hi Matthew,
Cheers mate, but I do think that certain Bird Species are breedable in outside planted aviaries, I know of Sugarbirds/Honeycreepers, Tanagers etc breeding under these conditions, so I was rather hoping that the person you know with the Tinker Birds managed to do the same.
