I reported a while back that my Bourke was sitting on 4 eggs. She sat for ages and has now given up. I have removed all the eggs as they were cold. Why were the eggs no good? What causes eggs to be clear?
I guess it is too late this year now to hope she tries again :?

Hi Laura,
Sorry to hear the eggs were infertile:-|, there are many reasons for clear eggs, the cock may not have fertalised them due to inexperience (of one or both Birds) when mating, maybe the cock didn't tread the hen at all, sometimes cock Parrotlike drive hens into nest boxes while forgetting the important part of breeding:roll:, one or both Birds may not be in full breeding condition, I forgot to ask if the eggs were definately clear and not addled?, if they are clear then obviously there are infertile, but if the are addled then they are fertile but failed to hatch due, again for many reasons, mainly disturbance during incubation resulting in the embryo to die.
In this case I would put this failure down to being the first round from these young Birds, you may be surprised by a late round, but if not at least they should try next year, after all they now know the basics, box, eggs, incubate, just pray they get the other part right next time.
