hey all,

Seen 4 of these for sale, 1 cock & 3 hens for £50 the 4.

Unsure what species they are as ive searched the name their listed as but nothing much comes up.

Does anyone know what the more common name is? and is this a good buy?

Thanks
Dave H

hi dave dont know about half capped weavers ,but there is a half masked weaver mate ,(ploceus vitelellinus) or viteline(masked)weaver see if you can find pictures of these and see if they tally

Hi Dave,

I agree with Kenny, the Birds on offer are likely to be Half Masked or even more likely to be Masked Weavers.
In my opinion the price of the Birds would be a fairly good deal, but only if you feel you can provide the correct Environment to breed from this group of Birds.

great! now i've finally got a good picture to compare my weaver cock to. i always thought they were lesser masked weavers but it definately looks like the second weaver photo aka half masked.

Dave, if you want to start out with the weavers i really wouldn't pass up the opportunity to buy those birds you'll only regret it if you do trust me!

also i'll dig up a photo of the weavers i have

Hi ken, there aren't any greensingers in any of my photos on this topic, there are a few hen golden bishops which like greensingers have the yellow eye band, maybe that's what you saw at a glance?

i do have greensingers in the aviary, there songs are great, but wait untill you here one of my greensinger canary hybrids sing:grin:

Now now Ken:shock: ,

Jimmy was right in agreeing with you in the fact that you made yourself look an amatuer (and even in your admittance you spelt the word wrong:lol:), but that doesn't excuse the mention of what the Sicillians do in bed with Horses and Chickens on a Family Forum.

Hi Paul,

I also noticed the spelling mistake by Kenny, i've told him about this before but he takes no notice, so now i don't bother, you can normally work out what he means. :) :)

When he mentions he has relatives in Sicilly i think he means the Isles of Scilly, he sometimes gets a bit confused.

hey paul/chris,

I emailed the person selling the weavers as soon as i seen it but i have not heard anything from them.

heres the email - dandfwilks@tesco.com - and the guy is called david, if contacting him refer to his advert on birdtrek.

if anyone is interested.
Having never heard of the species there selling i thought someone could show me what they look like.
Thanks

hi dave ,

i have had orange bishops in an aviary with zebs and bengalese they do get a bit aggressive when they are nest building but all in all mine didnt really attack anything with any great enthusiasm but maybe others have had problems i think they are ok if they have plenty of room .
