Hello folks,
My Brits use 1/2 coco nut shells as nest bolws, the ones that you buy with food in for the wild birds in the winter, once the food is eaten then the shells are washed and put away for the following breeding season, and the birds like them, especially my bulfinches.

hi john
thats a good one i would think that you could boil those to sterilize them, and they would last a heck of a long time ,i have seen them with a hole drilled in and held together with elastic bands for finches.

hi chris

its funny why they always chose the most unlikely things to build their nests in,canaries have always fascinated me the way that they manage that tight round ring with just a beak and two feet, thats why i love this hobby all birds are fascinating in the way they do stuff and especially the way they build their nests and where they biuld them

the basket is just a java nest basket dismantled with a stanley knife. the clip is removed and threaded into the bottom and then hung from the top of the flight under cover. the 2 zebras which made this have now got 4 chicks in. yey. lol

Hi Kristian,

I like the modified nesting site mate, and obviously your Zebras have made full use of your work.

Do you have a picture of the Java nest basket before you modified it?

I have a pair of Timor Sparrows that haven't nested this year, obviously I would like to hear of any tips on nesting recepticles to offer next year.

Paul.

hello Jimmy

nice picture, though don't let them stay on for too long, not un-less Lee would like some curiously poo like white streaks in his hair.
