Hi one and all
Well not good news out here any way. In canada we have an out-brake of West Nile Virus that is a strain of moskito's have developed a virus that is killing some birds.
As you know all moskito's need blood to breed and they collect it by drawing blood from warm blooded animals by injecting a small amount of anti quagulant into the animal to stop the blood clotting and draw out a small amount of blood, Off is a repelant that keeps most of these anoying things away.
BUT a small strain of moskito's have become ammuned to most sprays and have developed a different way of collecting blood by injecting a small amount of paralisiing fluid into the animal and collecting blood, this in small doses is no problem but to small birds a problem in some areas flocks of birds are found dead, Another problem that the only way to distroy the insects is to nightly fogging (misting) areas with a mist that will kill the pests but they hatch in three days so this has to be done often and the stuff they are using is not what you call safe on humans in large amounts over long periods.
You say not a problem when they live in the wild and people live in towns WRONG I think it is Brampton Ontario has recently been hit by a plague of them and the streets are being fogged each night.
Another problem is that insect bites are starting to have effects on humans now in small ways and with no cure as yet time will tell.
1000'S die each year in Africa from the same fly with a different virus so will the "small " critters rule the world some day
