Hi one and all .
Well I am home early to day and it is raining so I thought I may enter a few new threads for some to follow.. SECURITY who needs it THEY WON'T BOTHER MY BIRDS they only steal show birds..NO ONE KNOWS I HAVE BIRDS ANYWAY.there is always some one home.
Famous last words spoken by many and usually in company they don't know. In past years we all had many friends that we use to show off our birds to and enjoyed company to talk BIRDS who ever they were.
BE REALISTIC in this day and age if you are into birds you want very few freinds as they talk down the pub ,and to every one is there, and every one hears that you are away or what ever.
I have a few tips to live by if any one has more please feel free to add them .
Always have out side lights that work that have motion detecters
Show no one your bird you don't know
Have a big dog.
Get a camera set up, also a big red alarm box attached to the bird room with a red light on it that flashes.

In the past if we had anyone that came to look at the bird rooms we always told them to smile as they were being recorded and you show them the tv with the bird room camera on . When you went into the bird room you pointed out the alarm system never explaining that all you had was a box. In the bird room if it is large enough, have the dogs bed they will always ask why, you say the dog sleeps here.
The elusion of being prepared is far more intimadating to a burgler that has checked out your birdroom than the chance of getting birds to sell.
Any amount of money you can afford to spend on security is well spent as some one is broken into every day and birds pinched and it may come your way one day.
Allan
The main reason for the increase in bird style forums is that no one gives out there address and you can have all the friends in the world and you do have on this site so long may it continue.

Hi nigel,

if you really want to scare the S*** out of someone who trys to break into your aviary, plant a few shotgun shells around the entrance with wires linked up to them. then if you ever see someone run outside with a fake shotgun (or real one:twisted: ), flick a few switches and hey presto, the charges go off and they think your shooting at them! then hopefully they run off crying, if not make sure you have a real gun incase they're armed!!!!

another idea i like is placing mesh behind the windows and linking a car battery to it, they have a suprisingly high voltage/current and will give anyone who trys to cut the wire a nasty suprise

as you've already said a camera is a good idea, maybe if your good with electrics you can get a photo camera and place it above the door entrance with a motion decetor linked to it. have a sign on the door saying "smile for the camera:-P " then when someone moves the flash goes off and they run (hopefully)

these are just a few of the crazy things i want to try out when i get the chance. and theives reading this.... you've been warned:twisted:

hi all,

i have cctv that covers all of my back garden,a 500w body temperature/motion sensor yard light with a p i r ,i also have a very loud decibel alrarm wich is recharged by a solar panel ,the windows in my birdroom are laminated glass and i have 2 dogs, and the saying nobody knows i have birds in my case is absolutly true i take all my surplus birds to the parks aviarys to replenish there stocks and i only talk to them by p c they usually exchange a bag of seed for them at the end of the year.i would never tell anyone that i keep birds again.i used to show them and sell them through the local paper but that all stopped in 1988.i had to go into hospital for a 3rd operation and i had sorted my birds so my wife could look after them without to much trouble, but while she was visiting me in the hospital (obviously someone who knew i was in there) broke into by bird room and took about £800 worth of birds mostly javas, the worst thing about it was they ripped all the cage fronts off and left youngsters that were not weaned, eggs that were fertile and birds flying free in the bird room all night till my wife went to the bird room in the morning, the police could not do anything, the socco could not get any prints.i was ready to give up but the socco man actualy came to see me in hospital and he kept them himself and told me if i give up on the birds then they will win so here i am.so i can honestly say that apart from you lot and the guys on CNAI nobody knows i have birds now!
