Hi all,

to those who haven't yet visited FF3, you won't know that karl-d has decided to end all of the BB forums. this is inlight of recent events and realising how precious life is. i can understand the reasons for shutting down all forums and have no argument with karl for doing this.

to all those that were members of the Fight Back forum, thank's for your support. the fight does not end here it is merely the begining. the forum may have failed, but it has made many more people aware of the threat to our hobbies which is a victory in my book.

if anyone wishes to keep in-touch with ideas for fighting the anti's and information about their campaigns, then PM me your e-mail address and i'l send you information as i get it. my e-mail is: theoneandonlygingerboy@hotmail.com

all the best, Chris

i too will miss Karl's great forums, like Chris said, fight-back forum may well have gone, it lived a short life indeed, but i think informed many, we call all fight back in our own way by contacting each other about anything you know from the AR's any activites in your area etc.

i would definatey agree with that, 3 forums is too much for one man to handle,
i will be lost with out birds buddy, its was in a way like a whole new family it made a network of friends from many different places, and though we shall probably keep in contact with many, i can't quite thinks that it will ever be the same again. i first joined in january four days after new years day, and i shall never forgot, it, made me happy when i am depressed in winter,
but life goes on,

Crickey this is one hell of a rollercoaster, i think i've saved the FB forum provided i can get a domain name and hosting, time to pull in a few favours from some friends i know:grin: it does look like CNAI is going offline, but i think BBIA is being saved due to it being the only brit forum on the net

i'll let you know more as i find out more, i can say that FB will be offline at some point and this could be for quite a while, but it will definately be back!

Hi Chris,

If the Site needs funding please ask, but one suggestion would be to chat up Laura and see if Carl can help you out towards hosting FB.

Hi paul,

laura has already PM'd me to contact carl, which i will do over the next few weeks. first things first tho, i need a new job to get the money. no need for donations, i can't see that it would cost that much to run.

Hi all,

http://fightback.madpage.com/fight-back/V1/index.php

this is only a temporary setup until i get a new server sorted out, but at least we're still here

Hi, just thought i'd mention that members seem to be having problems logging in and being taken to another site. this is something to do with the server i believe. also from the admin side the mass e-mail function isn't working so i can't get in touch with all the members (well i can but it would take a lot of copy and paste!)

my advise to any members reading this would be to forget the forum for now, i'll let everyone know when i have found the new server and re-done the forum possibly with a home page. this won't be anytime soon either as i need to get a job first, and am waiting for a friend of mine to get his server provider thingy up and running which should be soon, as it will be easier for me to work wioth someone face to face rather than over the net:lol:

so goodbye to FB for now, but it WILL be back and better than ever

Hi all,

a few of you may have recieved this E-mail today:

Just a short post to inform all members of the closure of the Fight Back forum,
it’s quite evident that the forum has no interest, so I guess all the shouting
was just hot air.

So many people wanted to do so much.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

well i feel like i'm going to have to clear a few things up, firstly i did not send this e-mail it was infact sent by Karl D, now you might be thinking what the hell!? Karl decided a while back that he was going to pack in all of the CNAI forums including FB, i offered to take Fight Back off his hands and the forum was moved to a free server and handed over to me, Karl then went on to say that i now owned the site and it was up to me what i did with it as i had put "so much work in" and it is only right that i now "own what i have created"

well, last week i was a little angry to say the least at one of Karl's posts on FF3, which was shortly removed afterward. i decided that this attack against a member was unacceptable and that i no longer wanted to be a part of his forum CNAI. after this all hell broke lose and Karl has taken back Fight Back which ISN'T HIS TO TAKE! apparently he was going to do a re-vamp of the forum and run it as his own, however now i find out he has not only taken it away from it's owner, but shut it down in spite.

i am now one very angry bunny, but mark my words, Fight Back will be back! and karl isn't having anything to do with this new forum, or homepage!

give me a few weeks to get a new job, the money to get a server and the time to figure out how to create a website and i promise the Fight will go on!

i am NOT HAPPY:-x :-x :-x

Chris:-x

hello chris,

i think Karl has done a bad thing here, seeing as he gave the site then surely he could not take it away.
i will welcome the time when fight back returns. though in the last few weeks of existence the postings were slow to non-exist, for a number of reasons, that i'm sure we can iron out.

chris
08-29-2005, 11:35 AM
hi matthew, i think the 2 main reasons for that were the domain change to madpage.com, who like to direct our members to an advertsisement page instead of the forum, and the fact that the mass e-mail wasn't working for me so i couldn't tell everyone the problems and new address etc

Hello Chris.
Tell me .. Do you have a domain name that you control with no one else interfering ?
one of the cheapest reliable domain registrars i know and use would be here :

123reg.com (http://www.123-reg.co.uk/affiliate.cgi?id=AF155617)
£6.09 p it was the last time i registered a domain for co.uk domain for 2 years.

they do hosting to , but maybe you wont need to worry about that :)

If you had to set up a forum do you have preference to what particular type ( phpbb2 , vbulletin , xmb ) to name a few.

most are free , this forum uses Vbulletin and is in my view the best available but will set you back about £90

Do you have content such as a database backup from the forum you have/had ?

How many visitors do you have , would you have ?

do you still have access to the forum?

Do you still have access inside the website account ?

let me know a few technical issues and i will see what i can do.

Kind regards
Carl

Hi Carl,

at the moment i don't have a domain name at all, i also don't know much about the different types of forum available, the only 2 i know of really would be the phpbb2 and the vbulletin, i belive the previous FB forum was a phpbb2, but i would want something good to work with when i do get round to re-launching a new FB style forum.

i do have the backup from the old FB forum as i did take download a backup about every month... not that it's much use to me now.

i believe there were a total of 60 registered members, and a few regular visitors, however when the domain was changed hardly anyone came back as it kept re-directing everyone to some sort of' 100's of ad's' site:?

i no longer have access to the forum, my account was removed and the forum has been deleted/removed by it's 'new owner:mad: '

at the moment i really aren't in a position to get a forum going as i don't have a job so can't pay for it to get it up and running, nor do i have any kind of internet bank account that i can use as i don't trust the things... i should have found myself a job in the next week all going well and will be in a better position to get things moving.

i won't be accepting any donations off previous members either before anyone asks:-P , it wil be a free service

i am not promising anything at this stage but let me take a look and see what i can come up with.

Hi Carl,

that's the problem, the forum is no longer there:neutral: , the website address was :

http://fightback.madpage.com/fight-back/V1/index.php (http://fightback.madpage.com/fight-back/V1/index.php)

no doubt you'll be re-directed to the 100 web ad's page instantly as most people are, good luck

Hi Chris

will the site be aimed at bird keepers only?

chris
08-31-2005, 07:28 PM
Hi Laura,

nope the site will be aimed at all petkeepers as the last one was. the anti's are opposed to all of us and we have strength in numbers so hopefully uniting the pet keeping world will make us stronger and prevent any silly laws coming in.

i have actually e-mailed Chris Newman of FOCAS to see if he would be interested in a FOCAS forum, as focas already represents all animal keeping groups but as of yet has no forum or website. i don't see much point in running 2 separate furums for the same things if we can work together on it. anyway i'm waiting to see what he has to say as he is a pretty busy man

Hello Chris.
How’s this sound...

I can supply you hosting for free for now , we can look and assess this early in the new year , we can see what your usage is for the web space.

I would like to place a banner ad like the ones at the top and bottom of this forum on yours.
the number of ads may grow, they may not always be bird/animal related.

I can set you up with a phpbb2 forum like you had before and possibly re-insert your data thus leaving you a little behind but with posts/members ( i cant say for sure at this stage if the transition from your data will carry over to a newer version but i will try )
If successful you can then mass mail your members to let them know of the changes.

If all goes well then this leaves you with obtaining your domain name as without this i can not take any further steps.

Your thoughts.

Kind Regards
Carl

chris
08-31-2005, 07:50 PM
Hi carl,

that sounds like a good offer to me:grin: , i will try and get the domin sorted over the next few weeks (get job first lol)

the advertisements won't be a problem,

how much will the forum/website cost me per year and how would i pay this? the best method of payment for me at the moment would be postal order unless i get a bank account sorted

is there anything else i need to know or is that it?

thanks, Chris:wink:

webmaster
08-31-2005, 08:26 PM
mmm pricing , costs :)
actually i don’t think it will be that bad , i review prices at the start of each new year so it may be different in 2006 but as it stands now i have 4 main brackets and usually bill monthly as most prefer this..
cost depends only on the space the site takes up so i would say at this stage the basic cheapest package would do you fine at £2.51 per month.

any payment method is fine and it can be done yearly if its better for you, anyway we can look at that in January.

it seems from reading your post you have had a few problems, i would hope we can do better this time :)

I don’t think there’s anything else you need to know, or no hidden surprises to catch you out :)
This is mainly for hosting the site and would not contain design work , however i can put time aside for you so that you can get back to where you were as quick as possible and be available for questions and some modifications if you need help.

I would however look at getting that domain name as soon as you can as the quicker you can re-establish links with members the better.
Maybe place a new post here and ask for opinions for the name ?

I may also be able to grab the email addresses from your data and give you a way to mass mail everyone tomorrow if this helps ?

Kind Regards
Carl

hello Chris,

i thinks its brilliant what you are doing, a massive thumbs up to you, i'm not sure of what its name could be but nothing too corny or American i hope. i'm glad theres at least someone out there who wants to really make a difference.
i thinks its a great idea for you contacting Chris newman, as he before the site got screwed up, posted some really usefull information from FOCAS, that is publically available. now i know the FOCAS is making a differnce as Mark Dancer, the midlands branch representative on the comitee of the waxbill finch society attended one of their meetings, so we did get information passed down, but nothing as much as what Chris Newman could say for us.

i'll be interested in what the aims will be this time perhaps we could talk it through some time, as i felt with one or two parts of the original forum, didn't really work, or benefit us.

can i also say a big thumbs up to Carl who has offered his help.

i propose we place our suggestions on this thread, i will then check availability on the net, and the names that are available i will place back up on this thread. then all we have to do to vote is to PM myself with the name you think is best. i will then tally up the names, and the one with the most votes wins
