hey laura,
Why so little for parent-reared? id ask a minimum of £10 a pair, what colours are they?
Since when i bought parent-reared hens they cost me £5 each and you can pick incubator hatched quail up for £6 a pair.
Thanks

Hello Dave,
My price would be £5 for a hen and £1 for a cock, so what price would you ask for Parent reared cocks, are you saying Parent reared cocks are worth £4 each?
Parent reared hens will be worth £5 each all day long, but whether incubator or Parent reared, cocks will only ever be worth around £1 each.

Hi all,
I don't wish to start a debate here, but I will do so .
Some years ago shortly after the new CPQ Mutations arrived from the Continent I bought Whites, Pearls, Tuxedos (Pieds), Blues, Blue Pearls etc and then went on to breed Silver Pearls, Fawn Pearls, Blue Silver Pearls, Blue Fawn Pearls etc.
During this period of knocking out hundreds of CPQ, I bred an incubator hatched Blue Pearl hen that I didn't wish to part with, her feather quality was outstandingl and she was of a very good size, she ended up in my main planted aviary with a cock of the same Mutation and quality.
In the same year she was bred, she incubated, hatched her first clutch of eggs and then reared all of the chicks.
I have also read books that state that cock CPQ cannot be trusted when included with rearing their own chicks, I have only found this to be true with a single CPQ cock Bird who turned out to be a murderous little s"*^ and with other cock CPQ.
I have witnessed a single case of cock CPQ assisting incubation and the Bird belonged to a friend of mine, when the hen was killed by an unknown Predator the cock CPQ almost completed incubation until intervention by myself to safeguard the cock Quails life due to not knowing the cause of the hens death while sitting.
Paul.

Hi paul,
interesting post mate. i guess it's just down to the bird at the end of the day, not so much the rearing method. still i'll opt for parent reared over incubator bred any day:grin:

Hi Chris,
I agree mate, parent reared will always be better in my book also, but I felt I should point out that Birds will always surprise you, after all they didn't write the books did they:grin:.
