I have just read in a book that the Common Starling can be taken from the wild at anytime. Bearing in mind the book was printed in 1997, is this still the case?:-?

Hello Laura,

The taking of certain Birds from the Wild is still a shady area, the Old's and I looked into this regarding Jay's some years ago.
The Man we asked of advice was at the time a prominent Committee member of the National Council of Aviculture, he followed up our question, but he could only tell us it was down to the current Governing Body of the British Bird Council and their interpretation of the Law.:-|

This is why we are currently under attack from the Animal Rights Movement, the Laws protecting various Birds, Native and Foreign is way too vague, at the moment it is down to the interpretation of certain Local Councils.

I don't know exactly why you are asking this question, but if you wish to know more I would suggest you ask DEFRA for clear answers.

I only mentioned tonight to my Old Man how pathetic the numbers of Starlings in our area are, I think that it is way overdue for Captive Breeding Programmes of these Birds to increase their numbers, but it is also overdue that the shooting of our Migratory Birds is stopped on the Continent.

Paul.
