I was wondering with this weather how hot is too hot?

My aviary has been reaching temperatures of 30 + degrees! Although the birds seem able to cope because the aviary is fully covered over I have been putting an oscillating fan on for the during the day.

I keep a variety of foreign finches, diamond doves, quail and some softbills.

Hi Old Crow,

The temperature does depend on the Finches and Softbills you keep, Diamond Doves and Chinese Painted Quail should be able to cope with the high temperatures we are experiencing at the moment.

But certain Finches and Softbills could either thrive, or suffer depending on the conditions they are used to in the Wild.

The African, Asian and South American Finches, Buntings, Weavers, Mannikins and Waxbills I have seem to cope quite well with the extreme heat, the Laughing Thrushes I have also seem to cope quite well, in the shade provided.

But the Japanese Waxwings and the European Jay do seem to seek out the shaded areas provided due to past experience with these Birds in previous years, more than any other.

The Japanese Waxwings always seen to seek shade at this time of year more than any other Bird Species, this is provided in the form of growing Plants and artificial cover.

At this moment there is one pair of these Birds who are incubating eggs and I hope that this year they will incubate and rear chicks to maturity without my needing to intervine and handrear chicks for a second time.
