Hi

Can anyone tell me if both male and female Zosterops sing (warble)? I am sure that only one of mine is singing, they are also 'playing' in a nest constructed by the Weavers.....am I building my hopes up too much:rolleyes:

Hi Laura,

I don't know if both sexes of Zosterops sing, but if one of your Birds tends to sing more than the other I would like to think you have a true pair.

Zosterops do build a cup nest as a general rule, but if the pair you have are investigating a Weaver nest then this can't be all bad, some Birds will take over a nest previously built by another Species.

At this point I'm not sure if you are building up your hopes, only time will tell.

There is the makings of another cup nest in my large aviary, could my Jacarinis be thinking of a 3rd round OR could this be the Zosterops having a go???? :-?

Hi Laura,

My fingers are crossed for you with the hope that you are witnessing the beginnings of your Zosterops breeding.

G'day Laura,

I spoke to Alan Brown today regarding your question whether both cock and hen Zosterops sing, and his answer was no, but then added that he had not heard cock Kikiyu Zosterops sing anyway.

But I do have one other person in mind who may come up with a better answer than I've managed so far, a very good friend who I have known ever since I started keeping Birds, Bill painter who currently has three Species of Zosterops in his collection, including the Kikiyu or as they should be called Broad Ringed Zosterops.

Hi Laura,

On this information have you two males?

If so you know what to do, visit DB with the hope that more Broad Ringed Zosterops are available.

Paul.

It is difficult to tell, but I only ever hear one bird sing, I would have thought that had their been two they would try to compete with the other?
