2 weeks ago I moved my birds from the garden shed into their new home which is a summer house my husband built for them, it has double glazed patio doors and one window, roof and walls have been well insulated and it does not seem to go below 54 degrees even though I have not put a heater on in there yet, I have 3 pairs of Harlequins, 1 pair factor canaries, trio of gloucester canaries and 2 pairs of gloucester canaries all in double breeding cages, also in the summer house I have a cage with 2 zebra finches which I had to hand rear and a silverbill who was brought in from the aviary as he was not well and I have not had the heart to put him out again yet because of the weather, in another cage I have a zebra which I hand reared and one which I bought to keep it company, the plan is to build outside flights for the zebras when the weather improves but let them come back into the summer house when they want to.
One of the zebras has a bad foot which looks a little pussy [this started about 2 days ago] today I noticed one of my pairs of gloucester was not looking quite right so when we took her out her left leg was completely hidden it was pussy and the feathers had stuck to it, her right leg was showing signs of dried blood but was not as bad as the left leg.
I do not know if the zebra and canary have the same problem but they are in different cages, I cannot find anything in any of my books to say what could be the cause, any ideas please ??
