Hi All
I have a pair of Rosa Bourkes that seem very loving towards each other. I have seen them kissing each other, well that's what it looks like, but they seem to be making no attempt to mate
Any suggestions?

Hi,
i could well be wrong as i know just about nothing about these parrokeets, however could this just be normal social behaviour? as i have seen male budgies do this to each other many times, as do the females as part of the social structure.
Chris:?

Hi Laura and Chris,
Laura,
The reason for your Bourkes reluctance to breed may be simply due to only one nest box on offer, if you provide another two or three boxes at different heights and angles this may help.:)
Also as silly as it may seem, they might be intimidated by the constant activity of the other Birds such as the Weavers who are very active and seemingly aggressive in their courtship behaviour, the Bourkes might feel more comfortable in your Waxbill aviary?
Chris,
The Bourkes that Laura has are a true pair, but I'm stumped for a reason why these Birds have not attempted breeding yet.:?

Hi Laura,
Is there any change regarding the Bourkes, have you provided more nest boxes, or have you tried them in your other aviary?
Paul.:-)

Roger (luv 'im) has made another nest box which I have put up facing another direction, I have asked for another one but I'm still waiting!

Good on ya Roger:grin:,
But Laura is still waiting on at least one other nest box from you, come on mate!
On a serious note I hope you manage to breed the Bourkes this year, I would hate to see you give up on them!

Looks like things are starting to happen with my Bourkes. The male seems to have decided which nest box they should use, he keeps flying from his mate to the nest box and back again :-P

Like everything else, "patience".
There is a difference between "good friends", and "foreplay". Sometimes you just want to be "good friends". Give them somewhere a little private, where possible. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Count every extra as a bonus. That would be my advice.

Hi Laura and Fisherman,
Laura, I'm pleased there is some action from the Bourkes at last:grin:, good luck mate!!
Fisherman, Maybe the Bourkes are similar to me and enjoy extended "foreplay".
I say good luck to them don't you.

Good luck Laura,
Can we have piccies of your success, or is that too much to ask?

I would love to, but all has gone quiet again:? I don't think the male can keep it up for too long........the chase that is  :-P

Hello Laura,
If you are interested I will be picking up an entire breeding colony of Bourkes from a friend in Surrey, the colony numbers twelve Birds including breeding pairs and current year bred youngsters?
The colony consists of around eight or nine Rosa's with the rest being Normals and Splits for Rosa, my mate Keith will provide breeding records.
The Rosa's are of excellent colour and you would be welcome to a proven breeding pair from the colony.
