Dirty Bottoms

I am newish to bird keeping and some of my canaries have dirlty bottoms [small balls hanging from their rear end] can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong ?

I have 8 canaries in a large cage at present and it seems to be the same 3 - 4 who keep getting in this state.

Any advice much appreciated.

i would firstly like to say i am not in anyway an expert on canaries

do the birds with messy vents appear ill at all or do they act perfectly normal? are they eating and drinking more, do they appear fluffled or often sleeping more, with sagging wings?
are they able to bath?

i know it can happen with some show breeds,

it could however be a genuine illness or paracite such as cocci, which can be treated with ivermectin (speeling?) based products.

Make sure they have a bath in their cage.
