Hi paul,

i've done a quick search on elephant grass. it seems the other name for it is "MISCANTHUS (http://www.nnfcc.co.uk/crops/info/miscanthus.htm)", which has gave a few results:

http://www.hardybamboo.com/shop/products.asp?c_urn=60&show=allpgno7

the elephant grass is at the bottom of the page, under the other name of miscanthus. they start at £5 per plant, but the more you buy the less it costs. and by the height of em (upto 4m!!!) i can see why the weavers would like em.

i'll continue searching and post anything else i find in this thread

here's another one:

http://www.urbanjungle.uk.com/category.asp?catcode=11

again look for "miscanthus". the interesting thing i found on this one is that Zebra grass IS miscanthus! and can grow considerably larger than 4 foot:shock: upto 2.4m, which works out at around 8 foot tall!!

looks like i'll be going back down to B&Q to get some more zebra grass now i know of it's importance to my weavers

Hi mate,

just bringing this back up incase you've missed it somehow. the urban jungle website has several different types of elephant grass, and pleanty of other exotic plants if you take a look around. i think i might order something off there if you can do so by post or over the phone.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your efforts on finding information on Elephant Grass, the more I know, the more I'm afraid of trying it.

Hi paul,

yesterday i went down the garden centre for yet more plants, and there were several miscanthus grasses for sale, all of which get very tall and i did come back with one of the bigger ones for about £6 i think. it also turns out that the so-called bamboo i have isn't bamboo at all but elephant grass! i've had the stuff for over a year and always thought it looked funny for bamboo.

i will be taking a small chunk out of each plant to grow outside the aviary just incase they don't last, if you want i can get a bit of root with a side shoot on it from each plant for ya when i do this, and send them your way in the post. you'll have to grow them on for a year or so, but at least you've got some if you can't find any in the mean time

Hi paul,

i'll send some your way next week, so if you get any suspicious packages it's not necessarily a bomb:shock:
anyway, what idiot would be stupid enough to put a return address on a bomb:lol:
