What's Wrong?!

There is a Blackbird that is always in my front garden when I go off to work in the mornings. This morning I had more time and stopped to take a look at him and noticed his eyes didn't look too good. My eyesight is not so good so I got my camera out and took a few shots; the poor thing looks terrible!

He has no problem flying and is always busy turning over the leaves in my garden looking for food. He has no trouble seeing me either, but his eyes, particularly his right eye looks awful! :-(

i cannot see it close up enough though, is it just on one side?

could it be some form of injury

Hi Matthew, I noticed it because both of his eyes looked huge at a distance!

His left eye looks big and wide but not as raw at his right one.

do you think it could have been attacked by anything,i know i should not be suggesting this because it is a wild bird ,but is there any way you can catch it to see if it is serious...you could always try the old mealworm under a wire cage with a twig under it so that it goes for the mealworm ..you pull the twig away and the bird ends up in the cage....i dont think anyone would mind seeing as it is injured....you could always try posting it on bbia to see if they can suggest anything

looks like its an infection poor thing nature will more than likely take its course if you have bop living near or damn cats

I saw him again today, he was eating worms! Seems to be doing OK ;-)
