Well I wasn't sure, but it has been confirmed by Paul tonight, I have a Bengehecks! :-?

It's not like there isn't enough of their own species to go around either!

Who needs green singers and canaries

Hi Dave and Chris,

Although I have seen the Bird myself:grin:, I did ask Laura if she would post a current photo, but also it would be great if Laura could post a photo when the Bird has moulted into adult plumage.

Fine we are trying to tell people not to produce Hybrids where this can be avoided, but in this case as Laura has said there were plenty of partners of the right Species available.

hello Laura,

amazing, how old is it again? has it got another moult to go through? i've not heard of a bengo crossing with a hecks.

Nice - lol could be a new breed lol - has the stylish tight feathering of a hecks and colouring mainly of a choc bengie.

You think it could be a project :P lol - if not maybe some else could as i think they would make a nice breed.

Where other bengie/crosses tend to look like 1 parent and not a 50/50 mix which results in something totally different looking.

Thanks
Dave H

that is a strange little looking bird:grin:

let's see what the adult feathering looks like when it moults later on in the year. hopefully you have got a hybrid, or possibly a new colour mutation of hecks? hard for me to say much having not seen the bird in the flesh.

Chris;-)

I would say that the bird is a little over a month old; I am normally pretty good with my record keeping but I really don't know where this little one came from!

I will get a better shot at the weekend as the other one is terrible!

Hi laura,

your photo skills way outdo mine, it takes about half an hour for my birds to stay still and get used to the camera... then they just have a way of moving when i take the picture and my hand isn't the steadyest in the world. the result- a blurry photo 9 times out of ten

Hi all,

I swear the Bird Laura has is definately a Bengehecks or a Hecksalese, it shows the bib and tail of a Hecks, but with much more brown colouring from the Bengalese.
If the Bird was intended, my reaction would be far different, but as it came about as an accident, I'm very interested in how this Bird looks after the moult.

hi laura

that is an interesting looking bird, do you plan to try and breed from it next year?

Actually Chris I never plan anything where breeding is concerned, I just let the birds get on with it.

Hi Laura,

Great photo, could you please post a photo of a Hecks of a similar age to demonstrate the differences between the Hybrid and a pure Hecks?

Paul.

hi laura ,thats a definate cross and you are probably right part bengie part hecks,i heard something even stranger the other day, your bird is living proof but i logged on to a website about bengalese and he says he has a hen bird that sings,i have been breeding birds of different types for over 25 years but i have never seen a hen bengalese that sings,i am not calling him a liar but it seems highly improbable to me what does anyone else think

Hi Kenny,

I think your young Java looks like a young......................... Java:lol:.

I must say though I think the worried look from the Bengalese looking up at the Giant on top of their nest basket is quite comical.
