Hi,Wondered if anyone could answer a puzzle I have.About 5 years ago I kept a pair of Lizard canaries in my collection,I successfully bred three rounds that year. One thing that struck me was that in the nest the chicks were all yellow clears which puzzled me because I just thought they would be lizard like, then at their first moult they adorned the lizard markings,so I assumed that was the norm that like some other species of birds they don't take the adult plummage until they do their first moult.I lost the hen that winter and never replaced her and sold the stock. Now the real puzzle for me is,that recently I looked at pictures in books and on the internet browsing about Lizard canaries and have come across a couple of pictures with Lizard's feeding their chicks in the nest and their chicks have the Lizard markings in the nest?
So
A)Do lizard chicks in the nest have Lizard markings or should they be clear?
B)Are the pictures wrong and an artist just assumed what the nest feather would look like and got it wrong or was my pair of Lizards unusual?
