Dear All,
During the various parliamentary proceedings on the Animal Welfare Bill, the issue of the sale of animals on the internet has attracted demands for greater control and even a ban of all internet sales from many quarters.
The Federation of Companion Animal Societies, in partnership with the FBH and REPTA, have developed the following Code of Practice for Website Owners.
The draft COP was presented at this year’s Partnership Against Wildlife crime (PAW) Conference (comprising of NGO’s and UK Police, Customs, Wildlife Enforcement Officers and local authorities) by Chris Newman, the Chairman of FOCAS and the FBH. The PAW partnership have embraced the concept and will validate the final document, to be put forward for inclusion in UK legislation and CITES.
FOCAS has taken up the challenge and the Code is now under wider consultation with stakeholders and participating groups such as IFAW (who drafted the original guidelines) and the Scottish SPCA. This is your opportunity to contribute to the process (and in particular for those owners of websites with classifieds sections) to ensure the code is workable, fair and achieves its primary aim of preventing internet wildlife crime.
With Admin's permission (thanks Steve, you're a star http://www.livefoodshop.co.uk/forum/style_emoticons/default/hug.gif ) I would ask you to direct your replies and comments on this subject to the FOCAS forum This consultation is vitally important and the last thing we want is for your good ideas and valuable input to be missed as it takes a lot of people and a long time to trawl all the different forums used.
You can put forward your comments on the new Code of Practice at:

Kind Regards
Nils
