Hi

Which species of birds would you advise using to foster star finch eggs. I dont have any at the moment that need fostering but i do have a pair of star finch that i am hoping to breed this year

try not to foster is always best. though my star finches have laid 10clear eggs in one clutch:confused: zebras or bengelese would be best for fostering they only cost £5pr max!

Hi Philip,

The advice from Tom is A1, it is always best not to rely on fostering and give the parent birds the chance to rear their own youngsters, however if a particular pair of birds fail to rear their own youngsters then the need for fostering comes into play.

Bengalese Finches have long been used for fostering, but in recent years the use of Zebra Finches is increasing.

I just hope your Stars will rear their own?

All the best, Paul.;-)
