Hi mate,
i have a trio of yellow crowned bishops/golden bishops/napolean weavers (different names, same species:wink: ) also in with canaries so you won't have any real problems there, however the canaries may try to eat any nests that the weavers build.
diet is simple, foreign finch mix, cutlefish bone, greens, livefoods (mealworm, waxworm, fruitfly) these are essential for breeding, eggfood, grit if they will touch it
as for breeding them, if you go by what laura did with her orange bishops you can't go wrong as they are the same family of weavers. i haven't bred any yet, but am trying for this year.

What is the breeding session, am I to late this year ?
I have an indoor and outdour flight, the outdoor flight is partially covered on the sides with
birch screening and the roof is completly covered in corrigated plastic sheeting. Will they
need to be permanently housed indoors during the winter as they have not discovered the indoor
area yet.
The canaries suit themselves using both indoor and outdoor during the winter.

Hi Nigel
my birds have just come into their breeding colours, they are all housed in an outdoor aviary, like yours mine is completely covered with corrugated sheeting. During the winter months I cover the aviary panels in bubble wrap to protect the birds from our cold weather.
Are your birds in full colour?

hi mate,
just noticed that your weaver (avatar?) looks different to mine, yours appears to be all black on the chest whereas mine have a yellow breast, slight orange line on the chest, and a black body other than the top of the head and part of the back
thing that gets me now is.. if yours are yellow crowned bishops, then what the hell have i got:lol:

Hi Chris,
I do believe Nigel does in fact have a Weaver Species known as Yellow Crowned Bishops and the Birds you have are Napolean Weavers.
However their care and breeding are very similar to Lauras success with the Grenadier Weavers.

Hi Chris,
To add to the confusion of the Golden Palm Weavers, Dorset Birds now seem to have two seperate Species in one batch of Birds, Golden Palm and African Yellow Weavers which display only slight bill and eye colour in the cock Birds (hens are very similar).

Hi Laura,
Mine look exactly like the my picture so I assume that is full breeding colours.

Hi Nigel
make sure you give them plenty of coconut fibre and soft blades of fresh grass. I have bamboo in my aviary and they love to build their nests in it. I also have a very sad looking pampass grass in there, they have stripped the leaves for nest building.
Good luck

Hi all,
Can any of you help me in purchasing Elephant Grass?
I believe this could help towards breeding most of the Weaver Family.
