Hi all, I decided against buying the birds - my plan is to concentrate on my softbills next year, not buy more seedeaters!

Hi All,

i've just came home with a cut throat hen:D although it was nearly twice the price laura would have paid, it now means i have 2 pure pairs rather than one pure pair and one cut throat cock paired with a possible hybrid.

Chris;)

Hi Chris,

If I bought the Cut-Throat trio Laura has mentioned and hold them for you, would you be interested in buying them for your straight breeding of Cut-Throats?
If so then I would be happy to keep them for you until we meet up in the near future.

Paul.;-)

Hi Paul,

thanks for the offer mate but i have too many birds as it is at the moment. i think my two pairs are enough to keep me going for next year, even then they aren't difficult to come by

thanks anyway,

Chris:wink:

one of our pairs is now sitting on 3 eggs which are due to hatch as early as sunday. fingers crossed this could be the first batch of the year, and hopefully not the last either!

i really hope they hatch for you matey and are reared, don't forget loads and loads of mini-mealworms, other wise your cut throats may toss the chicks

Hi kenny & laura,

i'm back the weekend ofter next so the 3 pairs i have will be going into their breeding quarters and placed on the breeding diet. hopefully it wont take long to convince the other 2 pairs to start, but there is the slight problem of the cock bird i had off matthew talking indain silverbill.... as a result the hens just ignore him:razz:

LoL that cut throat is a talented bird

he started off singing zosterop, then he sung like a zebra finch and now a silverbill, it'll be a pekin robin next

chris
03-18-2007, 07:28 PM
the sooner he learns cut throat the better! i'd rather he chat up the hen cut throat and fill some eggs than start chatting up the robins:lol: i'm suprised he never picked up the greensinger mule's song actually:lol:

the cut throats are back on eggs again.

one pair in the indoor aviary has been sitting for a week now on 3 eggs. another pair has 2 eggs in a nest basket in the breeding cage although i can't check it without moving the birds so who knows there may be more. i assume they're sitting as one of them is nearly always in the basket but the last time i managed to check the eggs didnt appear warm? so who knows we'll see in 2 weeks either way

the 3rd pair consisting of the multi talented cock are in a breeding cage but dont seem to be doing anything yet. time will tell, and maybe, just maybe, he might learn to sing the right language:lol:

Hi All,

well bugger all has hatched - from any of the pairs. they were all due to hatch on the weekend those ine the cage had lost an egg and the remaining egg hadn't hatched anyway. those in the indor aviary are still sitting on 3 eggs that were due to hatch on saturday but obviously havent.

the other pair are still doing nothing at all with the cock still talking silverbill and no interest from the hen because of it

should be getting a 4th pair if i'm lucky on the weekend but given how many eggs we've had already and for none to hatch i'm begining to wonder if it's worth it
