hi all
this story was in my local paper tonight
A Pigeon-fancier today spoke of his horror after 11 birds were mutilated and killed.
Simon Young, of Falkland Road, east Hull, described the sickening moment he was told of a break-in at his pigeon loft by police.
He was told many of the birds had been decapitated in the burglary. Their blood was then sprayed over the pigeon loft at the rear of his home. Other birds were badly injured.
Mr Young was told of the burglary by police who called at his house just after midnight yesterday.
Mr Young, 50, said: "I am absolutely sickened by what happened.
"I started keeping pigeons about a year ago and they are like my family. They were a part of me.
"To come down in the middle of the night and find their heads scattered around my yard and their blood everywhere was heartbreaking. I am still in shock.
"I don't know how I am going to tell my daughter what has happened - she is only 12 and she loved the birds."
Four of Mr Young's birds were killed and a further three had to be destroyed by the RSPCA after they had their wings partially severed.
Postman Mr Young was looking after several of friend Kenneth Harris's birds and four of those were also killed.
Mr Harris, 45, of Wexford Avenue, east Hull, said: "I don't know how anyone could do this.
"I was physically sick when I came round to help clear up.
"They terrified defenceless animals and they must not be allowed to get away with it.
"I can't think what went through their minds. Who would want to do this? We want anyone who knows anything about the people who did this to contact the police.
"We have asked the RSPCA to get involved because we want to make sure justice is done."
The financial cost to the men is estimated to be thousands.
Mr Young said: "It is not going to put me off doing what I love.
"If anything it is going to make me even more determined."
A spokesman for Humberside Police appealed for witnesses to call officers on 0845 6060222.
A 22-year-old and 23-year-old have been arrested and bailed on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage and aggravated burglary.
