Hi All,
Paul,
this one is aimed at you more than anything, what show cage was it again for the greensinger mule? Australian finch or Bengalese, or somethng else? does it even matter as it's going in the any other bird class inc. hybrids anyway?
also how do i go about training him up and getting him used to a show cage? he's not particularly flighty as it is but i wouldn't want to be unprepared when the time comes

hi chris
about 3 weeks before the show the bird needs to be put in its show cage or the equivalnt of it ,some people change thier clothing or put a cap on so that they get used to seeing different people or what seems to be .....i used to spray mine with tepid water mixed with plume spray or a few drops of baby shampoo make sure the perches are as near to the middle as possible ,also leaving enough gap to make them jump from perch to perch this stops them bending thier tails against the bars some people condition thier show birds with allsorts of stuff like special seed mixes and greens, but to many greens tend to give them the squits and you dont want that in a show cage...........i am sorry chris i know you aimed this post at paul but i just thought i would let you know a bit of what i used to go through when i used to show my birds a long time ago you cant beat showing its very addictive and you meet a lot of really nice people also and you get a lot of advice most of it good!

Hi Kenny,
thanks for the reply, unfortunately i probably won't be attending the Welsh national as i'd hoped due to the unbelieveable journey time involved (6 hours by train, considering i'm in the middle of wales!!!).
Paul,
you there mate?

Hi Chris,
The Hybrid and Mule show scene is far different in the UK compared to the European show scene, in Europe classes are provided for Foreign Finch Mules, British/European Finch Mules, British/European Finch x British/European Finch Hybrids and British/European x Foreign Finch Hybrids etc.
In your case the fact that a Foreign Finch x Canary resulted in a Green Singing Finch x Canary it should be entered in a Foreign Bird Hybrid class.
The show cage to be used can be Zebra, Bengalese or Australian Finch depending entirely on how the bird shows itself best?

Hi Paul,
cheers mate, Aussie finch cage it is i think. i'll see what the pet shop has available when i'm back home as they often have second hand show cages, however so far most have been budgie show cages. pitty i lost the hen mule really as the two would gave better odds than just the one, although the cock is the better bird in anycase
Chris;)
