I was sitting on my front porch today minding my own business when a tiny Zebra Finch landed in my lap. I ran to the pet store, bought it a cage, millet, cuttle stone, and a nest. I then spent the rest of the day researching on the internet. Okay now I want a pair of alllll finches and all the babies to go with them. How long should I wait to by this little girl a friend? If she has a terrible bird disease should a week be long enough to know? She is gobbling up the millet. Her tears seem to be dk brown instead of black does that indicate a fawn? I did alotta reading today but I'm not sure how much sunk in. Teach Me More! Please.

hi tuffy
welcome to the site, try and describe this little zebra in more detail so we can tell which sex it may be and what mutation...then we can all decide what kind of mate you will need.....if it has survived being out in the wild there cant be much wrong with it

If a picture is worth a thousand words that one probably isnt, I will try to describe the bird. It's mostly a pale brown, orange beak and tail, cream colored right above the tail and cream colored over it complete underside. Efinch has a photo of a fawn that looks almost identical. I am kinda thinking I should get a female to go with it and get a pair of more exotic finches for babies. It is the tiniest little thing and Im thinking that breeders are trying to breed for larger birds. The plan right now is to wait a week to make sure it lives and then buy it a bigger cage and a buddy.
