It was great to see a large picture of a Weaver on the front of this week's C&A paper. Desperate to read about their 'Weaving Magic' I scoured the paper for the article, then I scoured it again and again, wait a minute I think I have found the article on page 15! Oh, maybe not, the only reference is the same picture as is on the front of the paper only smaller!!

hi Laura,

i was exactly the same when i saw the title and the large weaver pic. unfortunately that little bit on page 15 is all they have printed about it! not only that, i find that letter of the week is from public enemy No.1 aka greg glendell. after last week with the red budgie on the front cover and no article, the same as this week's, and the previous article on mammals i've decided i'm not going to buy the paper any more. the only good bit in there is the bargain box, and even that isn't worth it as there's hardly any birds for sale in the west midlands.

Since IPC media don't seem interested in ressurecting the National either, i see no reason why i should spend my money on a cr@p paper in support. i reckon us birdkeepers on the net could do a damn better job than they do, even if it was only once a year!

i know its damned disgusting, they over charge us for absolutly no reason, the robbing dogs produce a poor, poor paper, with article on animals, rubbish about red budgies and over-rated articles it get worse.
i begun reading them back in the 90's back then the paper cost less then a pound!!
i only read it at college now coz i ain't wasting no money.
However what we must understand is that the paper is as only as good as the articles we send in. this is a growing problem throughout the bird world, not enough people write articles to help improve the paper, but theres plenty around to critise it. the good thing about it, is that they will pay u for your articles.

i dunno about that, they owe me a £5 gift voucher for one of the letters i sent in:neutral: and i've sent 1/2 more since then aswell!

When I wrote an article about Weavers it took them over 3 months to print it and over 2 months after before they paid me! It doesn't really inspire one to contribute further.

i must agree with that,

it took ages for me to get my cheque, but when i did get it, it was over £100 so it wasn't too bad!!
they definately have some issues that need to be delt with.

crikey that's a bit of a wait! it might be better all round if they stopped doing the C&A paper, and concentrated all the articles into the Bird keeper magazine. that way there might be something worth reading once every month, and they'd have plenty of time to prepare!

I think if all on the bird related forums got together we could produce a very good on line magazine with each member taking a turn in producing an article to submit to it.
