Bengalese are well know as good foster parents, but did you know that Hecks, Zebras and Gold-Breasted finches all do it too? At least mine have!
Each have hatched and reared a bird that was not theirs, you should hear my Hecks talk bengalese!!

Hi all,
I have had the pleasure of witnessing the strange goings on in Lauras aviary, I have seen a single Hecks Grassfinch amongst a group of Bengalese Finch chicks, a pair of Zebra Finches rearing a Hecks Grassfinch at the same time as a pair of Hecks are rearing a Zebra Finch, but the trophy was very nearly won by the Gold Breasted Waxbills attempting to rear a Zebra Finch!
It seems as though Lauras hen Birds are in the habit of laying their eggs in the nearest nest box when the time comes to lay, but please believe this is not due to a shortage of nesting sites Laura & her Husband Roger have provided a huge number of nest sites in every shape & form.
The Birds in Lauras aviary seem to share nest boxes, but not partners so far, fingers crossed that doesn't happen  .
Paul. :)
