Hello all,

Between now and next Spring all of my Jacarini Finches will be on offer for sale, this will include young proven breeding pairs, and 06 bred youngsters.

I may end up regretting doing this, but offers of other birds of particular interest have forced me into this decision regarding space, my hope is that whoever take on these birds will continue to breed from them in the future as I have done.

This species is a very prolific one that will breed throughout the year without fail.

I do know there will be a handful of other breeders who will continue breeding Jacarini Finches offering unrelated birds to exchange to provide unrelated pairs for future buyers of these birds.

Adult pairs will be £35pr, and unsexed youngsters will be £15 each. ALL BIRDS NOW SOLD!!

Paul, I might be interested in an adult pair. I've not had Jacarini before but from what I've read they are fairly hardy. Are they OK in mixed avairies ?, Ive got Zebra's, Canaries, Bengies....

Hello Martyn,

Jacarini's will mix well with the birds you have mentioned, and as long as you provide some natural cover (planted, or cut Conifer branches) for them they will breed well too.

They will thrive on a standard Foreign Finch seed mixture, they may or may not take eggfood, but Livefood such as Mealworms (preferably minis) and Fruit Flies etc will be needed when they are breeding.

They are hardy birds, but I bring all of my Finches inside during the Winter months because although my aviaries are well covered I don't have attached shelters.

Because you haven't kept them before, I will mention that although they are generally a peaceful species, cocks can be quarrelsome towards other birds of similar size with a large amount of black plumage (especially their own species!).
Also if the intended breeding aviary is on the small size, and/or has little natural cover, you may need to remove youngsters to seperate accommodation when they are completely independent.

The most important point is that although you can house hens together outside of the breeding season, ALWAYS house cocks seperately!!

Also if you haven't read it yet, Laura's article on the homepage will tell you anything else you need to know about breeding these birds.

Sounds like I should be OK with 1 pair to start with.
